Diagnose me please - pain on my right side at the bottom of my ribs

Anyone? It's intermittent and I can only describe it as feeling like a stitch mostly. I've had a bit of diarrhoea and occasional pain the other side, it's been for a few days but as I say, intermittent. I have a long history of anxiety and my anxiety symptoms are often digestive - nausea, diarrhoea, indigestion - and consequently I don't trust my body and so I really don't know whether I need to see the GP, or it's a new form for my anxiety to act out. Any suggestions?

I'd get it checked out, it could be a grumbling appendix.

pombal · 27/04/2014 20:55

It could be so many things.
No way to diagnose it on tinternet:
Go and see your GP

Oh bugger, was hoping someone would say either 'it's clearly x' or 'there are no important bits of you in that area, it must be anxiety'! I've checked online and the earliest GP appointments available are 12th or 14th May. If it carries on I suppose I'd better ring for an urgent one. Thanks all.

Could be your gallbladder. People often complain of pain in that area when they have gallbladder issues (I definitely did!). Is the pain worse after eating? Like the other posters say though, best to see your GP.

do you drink a lot of alcohol?
do you have any shoulder pain?

onestepbeyond · 27/04/2014 22:47

I had similar symptons with gall stones.

Bananaketchup · 28/04/2014 20:57

Update - got a same day appointment with a nurse practitioner, who said possibly gall bladder, though I have no other symptoms, or kidneys, although again I have no other symptoms. Urine test showed up white cells so I am being treated for a urine infection which has tracked back up to my kidneys? So I've got antibiotics and I'll see if that does the trick. Thanks for all replies.

I was going to say gallstones.

neversleepagain · 28/04/2014 21:32

Gallstone pain for me was the the top of my ribs and the pain traveled around to my upper back (around my shoulder blade). The pain was awful and I ended up in A&E on a morphine drip a few times.

Bananaketchup · 29/04/2014 21:46

Sorry didn't answer yesterday - I'm teetotal, so it's not alcohol related. I haven't got any shoulder pain, and the pain I've got is really not bad - just feels like a stitch. Morphine drip sounds scary, I haven't even needed paracetamol! I'm hoping it is a kidney infection and the meds do the trick because gall stones really don't sound fun at all. Thanks all.
