I've got the worst cold I've ever had - any ideas?

Sorry to moan as it's a bit trivial compared to most.

I have had a cold for about a week and a half. I've had low grade fevers, still have a hacking cough that has made me throw up and generally feel awful. The NHS direct site gives the impression that cold medicines don't work. I there anything that might help?

DH suggests I see my GP, but that seems unnecessary. I've had a few days off work (which seems ridiculous with a cold) and I just want to be ok for work on Monday.

I've had similar. 3 weeks now and just getting over it, although I'm still coughing up gunk. I'm not convinced there's anything worth taking for a cold, just paracetamol and night nurse before bed when you feel truly rotten. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh no, 3 weeks! Thanks Debka, I'll get some night nurse.
