HELP!!! Nappy rash that looks like its burnt!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:00

Becky is 10 months and has the worst nappy rash i have ever seen. Took her to docs on monday with it, prescribed Timodene.

Today it is 10 times worse than it has ever been, she is screaming and crabby and we can hardly settle her. This is not my baby - she is usually so happy and chilled out!

Anything I can do before I tear my hair out and go mad at the docs again tomorrow?!

Get the nappy off and try to keep it as dry as possible. Poor little thing

nearlythree · 24/08/2006 19:10

Pain relief? Calpol or similar?

SherlockLGJ · 24/08/2006 19:10

Is she teething as well ??

Have you tried metanium (mixed with some sudacreme?)

MoreTeaAnyone · 24/08/2006 19:12

Try to avoid a barrier cream as it will keep any moisture next to the skin. That will make it 100 times worse.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:12

she doesnt seem too worried by her teeth - only has one bless her.

Im jsut concerned because she has had it for over a week now and nothing but nothing is shifting it .... sudocreme, bepanthan, timodene.... have dosed her up with nurofen and bonjela to be sure its not teeth, but the redness is eye watering.... no blisters as yet.

I will keep napyp off tomorrow for as long as possible (but she has a tendancy to poo about 4 times a day!!)

DD had same thing. Are you breast feeding. If so it could be something acidic in your diet. For me I'm sure it was grapefruit juice. Also their Saliva become very acidic whilst they are teething to help prevent infection and inevitably this gets passed through their gut and into the wee and poo.

I just found use the steroid from the doc and use loads of Sudoream to protect the skin.

MoreTeaAnyone · 24/08/2006 19:14

Definately go to the docs again. My sis is a nurse and she always said that barrier creams although they kept any moisture out they would also keep it in. Fresh air is a wonderful thing.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:14

nope, not breastfeeding, but she isnt eating as well as usual either.

oh i hate being a mum sometimes.... i just want her to be all better

Don't be afraid of the steroid cream as a stitch in time can deffo save nine.

i used that bethaphen stuff not sure if that is the correct spelling are u still breastfeeding, i would try to keep nappies off as much as poss and let the air get to it, stop using that stuff sounds like a reaction to it, and would give a little calpol as sounds painfull, have u got any cotton nappies or muslin instead of a disposable nappy they make them sweat more

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:15

right, so back to docs for something stronger?!

A friend of mine had a child who had a tummy bug and he was trying to toilet train her at the same time well the poo got onto her thigh and has left a scar it was so acidic.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:16

i do have a few old terry nappies about but no wraps.... or will she be ok with just the terry unless i go out?!

TheBlonde · 24/08/2006 19:17

Is she drinking enough water or milk?
Last bad rash my LO had seemed to be caused by strong wee (and cheap nappies )

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 24/08/2006 19:18

she probably should drink more - 1 cup of water and 3 bottles a day

OP posts:
mimi1uk · 24/08/2006 19:19

would try and put something like that on or nothing preferable but keep it dry and well aired as if anythingis on it it will get hotter and sweater and worst
the cream i had was wonderfull would recommend it to anyone

just thinking - could bananas make it worse?

Only thing i can think she has eaten a lot of lately

OP posts:
mimi1uk · 24/08/2006 19:29

bannas can make babies very constipated as very hard for the body to break down ok in small quantities but not too much

Papillon · 24/08/2006 19:32

Sage is also excellent for babes bottom.

Especially against candida - make a really strong sage tea and even soak tissues in the sage and leave them against her skin in the nappy.

Did the doctor say if it was just bad nappy rash or otherwise? Timodene is for fungal infections so sage tea would be excellent more natural option that I have always found really effective.

Mum2FunkyDude · 24/08/2006 19:38

I think you should have it looked at, nappy rash usually clears in 24 hours, she might have thrush, or a fungul infection, for which none of the usual nappy rash remedies would work. Try and keep her dry, and take her back to the doctor.
