Ok, I'm probably just having a whinge, but I'm well & truly fed up now!

About 5 weeks ago I began with a really painful sore throat. So sore, I could hardly talk, didn't want to get out of bed, let alone do the school run. I was given penicillin by my GP. I also came down with thrush that week.

The soreness subsided a little after a week. Then returned with a vengeance after a few days. I still have a sore throat, 5 weeks on, although not as painful first time round, its still quite uncomfortable to swallow. A swab was taken but showed up nothing.

Now for the last 5 days I've had crippling cystitis. I swear I've never had it so bad. I'm on some antibiotics for it, which I will finish today. I've got some sachets too, should I start talking them as well?

I feel utterly rubbish. If its not this its that. I'm taking either paracetamol or ibuprofen almost daily to deal with then pain & have been for a while. I'm supposed to be painkiller free as I suffer from chronic headache/migraines as well so from advice from the GP at the hospital he wants me to reduce the intake of painkillers, which I could do, but the cystitis & sore throat is really hurting.

I've been gargling with aspirin to help with my throat. I usually spit it out afterwards.

My head is all over the place, I've a new job to start next week, I just want to feel better & all I've done is yell at the kids all week! Argh!

You've every right to have a whinge - I would too.

I hate taking anti -b's as I always get thrush after taking them.

The painkiller issue - tbh I'd take what I needed to get through this pain then work on reducing them when you're over it. There's nothing really to be acheived in making yourself more miserable by suffering the pain when you have the medication right there.

I find gargling with heavily salted cooled boiled water more effective than aspirin for a sore throat. You can also buy a spray at the pharmacy that has a numbing effect.

If you mean sachets of stuff to help flush the bladder when you have cystitis then have a check they won't interact with any other meds before taking them.

Really hope you feel better very soon Thanks

frogslegs thank you for replying.

Yeah I was doing the saltwater gargle, but when I saw the GP 2nd time round he advised against it! Said they don't generally advise that anymore as can induce sickness & no proof that it actually helps! Not like I was drinking it!

Just want to feel better so I can start my new job feeling 100%! Hoping the cystitis will settle down. Just seems no end, as soon as one illness ends another crops up!
