i shouldnt have googled, temproal arteritis. the symptoms fit with what my mum is complaining of

i was initially googling becasue she is complaining now that her veins above her temple are prominent.

Painful jaw + headache (especially scalp ache) in over 50s really needs to be checked out ASAP. As in I would consider Out of hours. Could you get her to ring the NHS advice line on the pretext of 'just checking whether you should go to the doctors tomorrow'?

It would certainly be on my list of differentials. She needs a CRP and ESR blood test tomorrow morning. I would even consider phoning NHS 24 or English equivalent.

thanks, I did give her the number of 111, but she is being taken out for a meal tonight, so she is going to ring GP first thing in the morning,
horrible thing to google and hopefully if she really does feel unwell while out with her friends they can steer her in the right direction. I will remind her in the morning to tell the GP every symptom. and if she doesnt get an appointment I will suggest she is more forceful perhaps

she did tell the practice nurse about her jaw last week, who said it was a GP issue, and she told a pharmacist about her prominent veins, who didnt appear concerned. so perhaps I am worrying unnecessarily, as long as she gets a GP appointment soon

Sooner rather than later though. Hope you have sorted her out. These parents can be stubborn.

The GP came to the temporal arteritis conclusion and she is on steroids and aspirin, now the dose is being lowered but i am not sure if her eyes are affected, she told other family members who kindly googled temporal arteritis symptoms and mentioned eye problems.
hoping that the treatment will cure that but she is very worried and noticing that sometimes her vision and/or eyes are peculiar.

i found out that it is eminently treatable which is what I am hanging on to, and have told her this, and her GP is being excellent
