How long would you give a breast lump before seeing doctor?

Just that really. I know often they are cysts or a swollen gland so how much opportunity do you give it to calm down before you make an appointment?

Think I've had it for about two weeks.

Go next week and get it checked.

I would just go sooner rather than later simply to put your mind at rest. When I went dr examined me said come back in two weeks and then when it was still there referred me to breast clinic. All was fine in the end (I just have lumpy boobs!) but the waiting and worrying was horrible.

wiltingfast · 20/04/2014 21:58

I'd go immediately.

I called my dra surgery when I found a lump and the triage dr called me back within a couple of hours and wanted to see me the same day where she examined me and the refered me. I was seen in the breast unit and had an ultrasound within a week. My lump was a cyst.

Phone your dr first thing Tuesday morning :)

I would go straightaway. Can't do any harm to go as soon as you can.

Iworrymyselftosleep · 20/04/2014 22:00

Get yourself to the doctors this week. Why wait? They may have a better idea than you if it could be an infected cyst. But if it needs monitoring or referring then you start the clock ticking.

Hope it's absolutely nothing. You should get it checked ASAP.

Go straight away. The sooner you go, the sooner your mind can be put at rest.

Chopchopbusybusy · 20/04/2014 22:03

I had an abnormal routine mammogram and I had a phone call on a Friday asking me to come back in on the Tuesday. There was no lump and no outward signs. All was OK in the end but don't delay.

patothechiefexec · 20/04/2014 22:03

Make an appointment for early next week.

I saw GP for a lump. She referred me to the hospital and I had an appointment for a couple of weeks later. It turned out to be scar tissue.

It might not be anything serious. Far better to get it sorted IMO.

FairPhyllis · 20/04/2014 22:09

Yeah, I should just let the doctor make that call.

I have never really taken the breast self-exam thing that seriously because I am youngish and the tissue has always felt too dense to be able to tell if there was a lump in it iyswim. Hope it doesn't come back and bite me in the, er, boob.

Oh fuck, yes, it'll have to be Tuesday!! good point.

I'd go immediately. I really wouldn't take chances with something like that.

Egghead68 · 21/04/2014 16:19

Go asap.
