lump near armpit

I am b/f my 8week old dd. Yesterday i found an oval shaped lump in my breast which is`quite painful when pressed. went to docs today. she said it was more than likely a cyst and to see how it goes in 2 or 3 weeks. but the area its in has always been tender since i had ds 2 and a half years ago and i doubt it will disappear in 2/3 weeks time. she also said something which scared me- "some women do find serious lumps in their breasts while b/f because they are focussing more in that area" i looked on past threads but havent found many from women who had lumps towards their armpits. has anyone else had a lump there? and is it safe if it is a 'cystic area' as the doc suggested?

I think it is quite usual to get lumps whilst you are bf. The fact that it is painful to touch is good news - if it was cancer it probably wouldn't be tender.

If it helps, my friend had a cyst removed in that area. That also was tender to the touch.

I would imagine that your GP is not worried at all and would have referred you immediaely if she thought it was anything iffy.

I had a small cyst in my armpit recently. It was kind of bean-sized, fairly tender and looked a bit inflamed too. It was there on and off for a few months.

It erupted spontaneously in the end .

I'm sorry your GP wasn't more reassuring. I bet it will disappear soon.

thankyou i feel better now. Carolina moon, what happened when it erupted, did you get a discharge or did the fluid go into the breast.

I had something similar in that area and was told it was a blocked gland due to breast milk presence.

loads of stringy bright yellow mucus came out, and then some fluid, and the rest of it subsided over a few days. There's just a pink acne-scar type mark now - a week or so later.

I had been thinking of doing some kind of DIY lancing, but it was prob best that I waited.

btw I stopped bfing ds in April, and I suppose it appeared a few weeks after that, so not sure how closely it was linked to bfing. I read somewhere that it can be caused by hormonal changes.

I have had a couple of lumps close to my armpit. Both went away afer a few days .... put it down to blocked sweat glands / ducts
