So many cysts!

I'm quite prone to cysts, usually when I'm a bit run-down - but I'm excelling myself at the moment! I have a row of them along the inside of my eyelid, two tiny ones on my thumb, and a big one has reared its ugly head tonight on the outer lips of my fanjo.

I have an appointment with the GP, but not until I'm back from my holiday the week after next ... by which time, of course, they will all be gone.

Does anyone have any wise words about cysts? Or what I can do to prevent them? I've suffered for 20 years with the ones in my eyes, on and off, but they have never been as frequent before as they are now - it seems that I have them every other week.

not a clue - the eye ones sound worrying though. Are the cysts like what I'd call a stye ie a red spot with a white/yellow head?. If so then personally I'd pop the fanjo one with a sterilised needle if it had a head as they are soooo painful when the pressure builds up inside, and you can then stick some Sudacrem on it to help it heal.

Have you tried taking echinacea (sp) or similar to boost your immune system? Or those effervescent vitamin ones meant for tired executives - Berocca, I think. They got me through a constant-colds period a couple of years ago.

MrsB, I've had the eye ones for years. I saw the GP years ago who sent me to a specialist, but by the time the appointment came through 13 months later(!) there wasn't much to see. They aren't styes, they're on the inside of the eyelid and form a row of yellow, headless lumps. They don't worry me, the specialist said they're harmless, but they're sore and instead of only coming every few months it's every couple of weeks now.

The others are inside rather than on the surface, there's nothing really to see and nothing to lance otherwise I would! They feel like hard peas and they move slightly when touched.

I haven't been taking anything, Echinacea might be worth a try. Haven't come across the other one you mention before.

Thank you

BUMP Please help WWB if you can.

Elibean · 23/08/2006 19:04

Ouch, WWB, are they painful? I used to suffer with cysts on my eyelids from time to time, and once had that big ugly one to match too

I don't have any fast cures, but what finally got rid of mine - and I was cynical - was acupuncture. I had styes that came back again and again, and I had the sort that form lasting cysts - I even had them cut out surgically, and went on antibiotics, but back they came. Whether it was coincidence or not I don't know, but I never get them anymore - and the one on my eyelid that seemed permanent went away.

In the short term, I hope your holiday does the trick...runs your batteries right back up, and banishes cysts for a nice long time.

WigWamBam · 24/08/2006 17:33

The eye ones are really painful, yes. The biggest one is now so large that it's blocking some of my vision as well, but they still can't fit me in to see the GP. I saw a pharmacist this morning who gave me some Brolene to help the soreness but of course it won't help the cysts.

I'm hoping a holiday helps! I know I'm run-down and stressed out, which won't have helped, so hopefully a bit of R&R will do the trick.

I wouldn't have thought of accupuncture, tbh. I did try it once, for RSI, but it didn't help - very relaxing though, which surprised me for something which involves having needles stuck into you! I will have to check and see if there are any local practitioners.

I don't know what to do to boost my immune system, or whatever else needs boosting. I'm on a diet but it's a healthy one, I'm getting plenty of fresh air and exercise ... maybe I was better off eating crap and being a couch-potato!

WWB - are you eating plenty of green veg and orange/red veg?

Elibean · 24/08/2006 18:37

WWB, I wouldn't have thought of it normally either. Was just at my wits end, and knew I was run down, and remembered a woman I'd seen years and years earlier for acupuncture....also found it relaxing, so thought what the hell.
Worth a try!
Whatever you do, don't give yourself a hard time about being run down, on a diet, or anything else, y'hear? Women with eye cysts need TLC, so there

WigWamBam · 24/08/2006 18:45

Avalon, yes I am. I'm veggie so I do get plenty of veg, and I eat more fruit than you could shake a stick at.

TLC would be nice ... instead of which dh is almost never here these days!

Will try the accupuncture, Elibean ... it can't hurt, can it.
