Has anyone had an unnsuccessful coil fit and then gone on to have a successful fit?

Went to have my first coil fitted today.

My cervix was too tight and they were unsuccessful. They tried extra numbing gel to help it relax. And GTN spray to try and dilate it. But no go. They tried for over 20mins.

I am on day 4 of my cycle so still bleeding a little. I have had 3 children delivered vaginally. So the dr was a little surprised but did warn me before hand that sometimes it just won't go in.

I've been advised to try again next month, if still a problem I can be referred to the hospital to have it done under ultrasound. Check there are no fibroids in the way etc.

Is it worth it? Are they likely to get it in on a second attempt?

Mine took a few attempts and in the end had some tablets to dilate the cervix. They are usually used orally, but i put them up there 24 hrs before.

The Dr hadn't ever used them like that before but showed me a paper on it and was interested to see it worked.

Thanks. I've been doing a bit of research.

I know they say to have it fitted on your period. And I know that part of this is in part to ensure you are not pregnant. But I keep being told it is so the cervix is open too.

but my research tells me that actually the cervix is closed at this point in the cycle. That it is actually open around the time of ovulation Confused
