Skin peeling off Ds's fingers........looking very sore

I noticed yesterday that on both of my ds's thumbs he has lost a big patch of skin and they look very sore.
When he got up this morning the one thumb looked even worse, with a big peice of skin hanging off.
He doesn't suck his thumb or keep sticking them in his mouth so i can't figure out why this is happeneing. The tips of a couple of his fingers look sore too.
It doesn't seem to be bothering him though.

Has anyone else had this problem ??

my skin peels off. both my dd peeled head to toe after birth, didnt bother them, and doesnt bother me. tho sometimes my fingers do go numb. extreme changed in temp make my skin dry out and then flake/peel. the palms of my hands are peeling a bit atm, but i think thats from too much DIY atm.

My nephew has just gone through lots of tests as his hands,(all the palms), were BRIGHT red and his skin started peeling off his fingertips!.

They were worried about Kawasaki which is EXTREMELY rare! There are many other symptoms with this, i think they were worried as his lips were scarlett too.
In the end they still didn't know and it's cleared up with cream so panic over!!

I'm sure it's just a skin thing but might be worth getting it checked.

That post was meant to be re-assuring by the way! Hope i haven't scared you, it's just when i read about fingers peeling, we've been looking it up the last few weeks cause of nephew!

I'm SURE it's not!!

Good friend's dd had kawasaki and is fine btw.

Prob a fungal infection, take to doc and he will prescribe canestan or something like that

binkie · 18/03/2004 12:27

Have you checked out hand, foot & mouth (not the same as foot & mouth in animals) - coxsackie (sp?) virus? Causes blisters which peel on fingers, toes & in mouth. Is his mouth sore? If it is that, it's one of those little kid viruses that they all get & then are lifelong immune. No treatment, just soft food if there are mouth blisters, goes away in under a week.

Get it checked by the doc. DD had peely patches on her fingers last summer (she was 20m), we thought it was just a bacterial infection and got fucidin for her hurty patches. It seemed to go, then a week or so later she was again unwell with a rash (Sunday am), then more peeling, then it turned into Scalded Skin Syndrome (Sunday night). VERY rare and a bit scary, but like most things, if caught quickly enough, dealable with. I'm not trying to frighten you, honest, just encourage you to get it checked out. As already said, it's probably an infection that can be zapped with cream.

Just to back up Binkie, both my DSs have just had hand, foot and mouth and my DS2 who had it worse has had loads of peeling skin where he had the spots. Has he had any spots?

nutcracker · 18/03/2004 21:56

No spots no. He did have the same prob before but not as bad. I will have to get it checked out i think.
