Have you tried a TENS machine for chronic back pain?

Hi. I have had a bad back for over a year. Have a prolapsed disc with nerve compression to my left leg. Very aggravated by prolonged standing or lots (like about a mile, hardly lots!) of walking. Am under the pain management team at local hospital. Have been referred to try a TENS machine which I will get on Wednesday.

Has anyone used a TENS machine in this way? How effective did you find it? Any tips?
Thanks.

I used to use one a few years ago for upper back pain and found it very helpful. It feels a bit strange to start with, but don't let that put you off. Also as the batteries start to run down you tend to turn the TENS machine up - remember to turn it back down when you put the new batteries in or you'll be giving yourself a bit of a shock! Give it a go, it can't do any harm to try.
