My daughter has the exact same thing, made worse when she poops, have tried EVERY cream over the counter and drs have prescribed canesten (SP) hc cream in a tube twice a day and zinc cream, they have said its because her wee is very acidic and will only go away completely when she is potty trained. Have also found using nature baby nappies make it a little better as there is no cholrine in them, hope this helps

we use washables. i am goggling nappy rash and it looks like it could be candida. i have a tube of unopened canasten HC here, should i use that?

Thats good I had good intentions of doing that but.......... with the cream I'm a bit dubious to say go ahead but the rash sounds exactly like my dds, very angry looking bright red lumps, I was told to use it very sparingly, so maybe a small amount would be ok, not sure, can you get an out of hours appointment with the dr??

noonar · 20/08/2006 14:32

have you thought of ussing egg white on her skin? i think it's supposed to be good , but have't tried it myself.

BrookeandTaylorsmummy · 20/08/2006 14:41

I'm probably wrong but I thought egg white is more of a barrier, but I'll think I'll use it when this round of nappy rash has gone, also leaving the nappy off for some of the day calms her bottom down alot, how old is your dd3??

Bath with oats added (put a handful in a tied up old popsock or tights leg) and put in as the bath is running for a nice milky soothing bath.

Cold chamomile tea mixed with a teaspoon of olive oil and a few drops of lavendar makes a soothing wash for nappy changing time as well.

Combination of these usually clear up ds's nappy rash.

I use cold chamomile tea with a spoon of honey dissolved in it (when it was hot of course . . ) from the recipe on the nappy lady website. It always seems to clear things up pretty quickly, and if dd's bum is really bad from teething, double dose of honey seems to fix it.

misdee · 20/08/2006 19:51

dd3 comes up in rashes if she touches egg white, so thats a no-no.

i really must get some camolile tea, i have silk liners so can soak them in that cant i?

another vote for camomile tea

DS would sometimes get such bad nappy rash, it would end up as open sores weeping

I bathed his bottom in chamomile tea and I would also put the wet teabags in his nappy! Amazingly soothing and it cleared it up very very quickly

If it's nappy rash rub some cornflour onto it at bedtime (yes the type you use for cooking!). I always used this when DD had nappy rash and it really works wonders

kittywits · 21/08/2006 15:27

Hi,i've had babies with thrush that i first thought was really angry nappy rash that wouldn't go away. If it's thrush it has a tendency to spread onto the top of the thighs a bit and not simply stay on the bottom area.
If you think it is thrush then canesten will clear it up quickly.

have cammomile tea and honey soaking as we speak .... logged on 10 mins ago incredibly timely thread for me .... ds 11 months has nappy rash for FIRST time really red sore bum and green poo as well as rash on arms and legs - tiny spots - has anyone had that combination before? He hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary - but I had clams on Saturday night that I suspect were a bit dodgy (still breast feeding) could that be the reason for the green poo?
