I don't know why but this has me really scared. Am contemplating going into hiding with family until it all blows over!

I agree, Angua, it's not that simple, otherwise we'd be rolling them out for everything.

Roonerspism · 14/10/2014 22:25

I'm no expert angua, but this is the message given out in no uncertain terms on Radio 4 the other night.

WHO also has apparently hugely has to cut its budgets in certain areas, including pandemic response units do expertise is also lacking.

It was made clear, in no uncertain terms, that a vaccine could easily have been produced.

Feel like people here will understand my HA fears with ebola. Dp thinks I am being utterly ridiculous to worry but I can't help it.

(did anyone,watch Utopia?!)

Anyway deep down I will probably squirrel some bread flour, milk and water away. He would go mad if he knew but will help stem my fears a bit. Having kids has definitely made me worse!

A nurse friend has spent the last week in ebola training as she deals with oil rig workers

Stratter5 · 15/10/2014 18:25

Ok, I'm being thick, but what do oil rig workers have to do with it?

DD2 had her flu jab today, the lovely pharmacist spent ages chatting to her about ebola, echoed everything I'd told her, and said he'd been assured that the chances of it schlepping up in rural Lincs was next to nothing. So she's a happy bunny again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2014 19:03

I guess, they have to be trained to deal with all sorts of emergencies and perhaps some of their workers come from the region most affected? (complete guess!)

honeycrest · 15/10/2014 20:13

I'm feeling quite anxious about this today. The news that second nurse flew whilst symptomatic is very worrying. There are rumors online from hospital staff that 5-6 healthcare workers there have come down with a fever and also the first nurses boyfriend is now showing symptoms. I know those can be taken with a grain of salt but I'm still slightly worried .CNN have said that 4 workers are being intensely monitored.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2014 20:19

Remember that Sawyers didn't infect anyone on his flights and he really was symptomatic. Duncan doesn't seem to have given it to his family. It does seem that you have to be very very symptomatic to share it.

Roonerspism · 15/10/2014 20:50

The hospital in Texas seem utterly crap. Lots of "oh, with hindsight" statements.

I mean, they knew the second nurse had similar contact as the first nurse who contracted it. And they let her fly on commercial jets?

Their competence makes that of the Spanish seem first class! I don't understand how governments can be so thick.....

More stuff out today about not getting it under control in Africa. Other than donate to MSF, is there anything else we can do?

If you have some spare time and a laptop there is Rooners. Will find you the thread.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2014 20:57

here

I'm planning to do a bit tomorrow afternoon.

Roonerspism · 15/10/2014 23:06

Wow kitten well done you.

I'm on hols right now so only managed a brief look on my phone.

How long does it take? Is it something you are doing daily?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/10/2014 11:33

Not daily, I've been finding it a little hard to find time at the pc. I tend to do my mning in my spare time when resting on the sofa (bit of an arthritis flare which means I need more rest than usual) and I've found it impossible to do on my ipad. Bit of a poor excuse Blush. I've found a good way to do it is during the news, cos it's a bit mindless so I can listen and click away.

The good thing is, you don't need to complete a square, so you can do what you can and just make sure you save it as you go.
