I don't know why but this has me really scared. Am contemplating going into hiding with family until it all blows over!

Please don't waste your GP'S time by going to see them about a disease outbreak happening 3,000+ miles away.

The chances of it reaching the UK are so negligible, it really isn't worth worrying about.

feathermucker · 01/04/2014 08:56

Yes, if it's anxiety, then absolutely go to see your GP x

MaidOfStars · 01/04/2014 08:56

As mentioned above, Ebola is a really rubbish virus. Also, a sufferer is very unlikely to poo out their own intestines in the absence of any other clinic indicators.

What you need to be afraid of are the good viruses. The ones that kill millions of the weak but survive and thrive in the strong. The ones that cleverly avoid long term immunity. The ones that flourish in slightly damp climates. The ones that travel in the air.

MaidOfStars · 01/04/2014 08:57

clinic/clinical

The person concerns suffers from anxiety, that is what they are going to the GP about.

KateMoose · 01/04/2014 10:11

Missy Get your DP to watch The Ring. That'll stop him wanting the telly on at night or even having one in the bedroom for that matter.......

mummytime · 01/04/2014 10:13

The person whose DH has to have the TV on to sleep - you need seperate bedrooms.

In fact I worry my DH could turn into that kind of person, hopefully not before the DC move out. Otherwise it could be the end of our marriage. Sleep is very important to me, and I can't sleep with the radio or TV on.

JennyWithers · 01/04/2014 10:17

I have an extremely nasty ex whose work sometimes takes him to Guinea. My fingers are crossed Grin

FGS

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/04/2014 10:30

I would only worry about something like that if there was an ebola outbreak say, in Gambia, or somewhere else where a large number of UK tourists go.

I suffer from anxiety too so can see the potential for worry in just about every scenario Blush.

Freezepop · 01/04/2014 10:38

My geography is really rubbish but I am going to Tenerife in less than a week. Isn't that near Africa. I have terrible anxiety about health issues and I feel really sick now.

IdkickJilliansAss · 01/04/2014 10:41

Ebola is a horrendous diesease, I'm sorry you are feeling anxious about it. It might be worth visiting GP for help with your anxiety Thanks

mummytime · 01/04/2014 10:45

Freezepop why don't you just google a world map.

Africa is a continent. Tenerife is one of a small group of volcanic islands 300 miles from the African coast. Its about 2000 miles from Gambia.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/04/2014 10:45

Freezepop - Tenerife is nowhere near Guinea. Please do not worry.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 01/04/2014 10:54

Do you have sky? If so put it on bbc parliament at night. Dreary enough to send anyone to sleep. I used it for the puppy when he was tiny. Sounds like your dh is selfish when it comes to sleep if his tv noise is keeping you awake

consideringadoption84 · 01/04/2014 10:59

There is practically zero tourism in guinea . I know this because my sister was going to move there with work last year and I jumped the gun on researching an exotic trip to see her. Almost nobody goes there.

CuChullain · 01/04/2014 11:35

Did your sister go there in the end? It's a fascinating and beautiful country, utterly broken though and desperately poor although as often is the case the people were lovely. I drove around the place the other year. Maybe my manflu was actually Ebola?

126sticks · 01/04/2014 11:43

People with anxiety will find something to worry about. If it isnt one thing, it will be another.
As someone said "it is all in the mind".
Doesnt have to have basis in reality.

As for the TV, fairly modern ones (say, the last 10 years) usually have an option to turn off after X time.
My most recent one is set to turn itself off if there is no activity (changing channels) after a set number of hours.
Sleep problem solved.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2014 12:41

It's drug resistant TB that I think that actually should frighten us (and the polio outbreak in Syria for those who are unvaccinated)

BigRedBall · 01/04/2014 12:41

I hope my map brings things into perspective for you.

Freaked out by news of Ebola outbreak!!
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2014 12:45

Sorry, have read rest of thread properly now.
Best thing to remember is how privileged and healthy we are nowadays in the uk and how in the past we would have had no idea about outbreaks in the rest of the world. The media makes the world feel smaller than it is.
Plus Ebola tends to burn itself out, it's too good at killing its host to keep spreading.

MistressDeeCee · 01/04/2014 12:49

The way its reported in the news is quite scary so for someone suffering anxiety, I can understand it would trigger fears. Ebola has spread to Liberia now. Residents there are being encouraged not to panic (yeah, right). .

My godfather is in Liberia, he comes to UK every 6 months or so. There is a quite large Guinean population in south London. Mainly artistes who travel back and forth. This morning after watching a particularly dramatic news report in the early hours, I found myself idly wondering if there'd be a possibility of people travelling to UK from Guinea or Liberia, and bringing the virus here
