New immunisation schedule

Hi all,

I've just been notified that from the 4th September the immunisation schedules for babies changes. I've known this was in the pipeline for some time (am a HV) but am amazed we haven't had more notice about it here. It'll affect all the babies I've seen in the last few weeks and I haven't been able to discuss it with parents.
I've copied the schedule below from the NHS immunisation site

  1. The new routine vaccination schedule:

2 months DTaP/IPV/Hib + pneumococcal vaccine
3 months DTaP/IPV/Hib + MenC vaccine
4 months DTaP/IPV/Hib + MenC + pneumococcal vaccine

12 months Hib/Men C
13 months MMR + pneumococcal vaccine

DTaP/IPV/Hib is a single injection that protects against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio and Hib.
MenC protects against meningitis C
Hib/ MenC is a combined vaccine protecting against Hib and Meningitis C

  1. Parents and health professionals will be able to access information about the changes to the routine programme on the immunisation website immunisation.nhs.uk

Thanks for this. What was the old (still current) schedule? Why the additions?
