New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

Hi Psiren and welcome. I would go and see your GP as there may be an infection? Did you keep your ovaries? If not, I would think the tiredness/fatigue could be menopause related? If you did keep them, I have read on hystersisters that they can go into a bit of a freeze and not work efficiently for a few weeks. That might also explain the all encompassing tiredness.

I am surprised at how well I feel. Apart from a bit of pain when I need to poo and when on the toilet, and I've had a few stabby pains just behind my belly button and a stitch on my tummy is catching and a bit red and inflamed, I feel almost back to normal. I've been out and about a few times this week, including a tramp into town yesterday and a visit to Whitby and a walk along the beach at Sandsend today!! I'm aware it might come back to bite me on the bum though...

I grew up on the coast, and now live in one of the most landlocked cities in the UK; it always recharges my batteries when I catch a sniff of sea air!

Good evening ladies I have returned after trying to log in a million times only to be told by my sister today about the hacking problems !? and she doesn't even own a pc !
Anyway I have a date for my hysteroscopy. Monday 12th May. All seems a lot more real now gulp.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2014 22:24

it's still going on ginge; I am really worried about my internet security now!

Yay for the date....just make sure you take some paracetomol and ibuprofen an hour before hand; it'll be less uncomfortable.

gingeme · 17/04/2014 22:56

Thankyou Daisy I shall. My sister had one a few weeks ago and gave me the lowdown of what to expect Smile

How are you doing? Sounds like your making good progress apart from your poo pain Blush

LackaDAISYcal · 17/04/2014 23:57

haha if only poo pain were the worst of it Grin; I have a huuuuge fucking DH pain as well and we are barely talking to each other Hmm

But I have told him how I feel and I feel better for it. Whether things will change or not we'll have to wait and see!!

Hi all
I have my appointment for coil removal, hysteroscopy and biopsies on April 29th. Got a phone call yesterday as they were putting on an extra clinic.
Any info on what to expect would be much appreciated.

gingeme · 18/04/2014 09:41

Hi Marshy Smile
Oh dear Daisy Sad glad you got it off your chest. Don't need that hassle on top of everything else.
Morning everyone else Grin how are you all ? xx

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 11:08

Hi everyone, I stupidly posted on the old thread. I'll try to cut and paste, be back in a mo

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 11:09

Hi everyone. First time active on this site today although I've been reading for a few weeks now. I find this site and all of your comments and discussions really helpful. I had my total abdo hysterectomy on 7th April so I'm 1 week and 4 days post operation. They took the lot away! I went back to the hospital today because I was worried about my wound bleeding and weeping but all appears to be going to plan and nothing to worry about. I'm getting a tad frustrated because my head is back to normal but my body is far from it. Been trying to run before I can walk. Was told to slow down today

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 11:10

Thanks for letting me know Daisy. You sound like you are doing fab!

notapizzaeater · 18/04/2014 12:01

Jane was you keyhole or through the sunroof ?

I'm trying to see roughly how long recovery is for cut..... I really really don't do sitting down doing nothing so am dreading this. It will be 5 weeks to the summer holidays and I hope to be functioning for this ....

notapizzaeater · 18/04/2014 12:02

Daisy, sometimes we need to tell them, hope it gets better Grin

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 13:23

I had a abdo so was cut. Internal stitches. It's all such a weird experience. Some days I feel like I'm really doing well but then others I feel like I just can't do anything. I get so tired quickly. Even a shower completely knackers me out. My head is completely back to normal now so I'm just frustrated that I can't do much :(

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 13:43

Daisy sorry to hear about your pooh pain. Omg the wind and pooh pain is horrific. I'm also suffering with that. I had to have 3 lots of suppositories and an enema before the hospital would let me home. And even more suppositories since I've been home. I now take 2 docusate sodium 100mg each morning and night. They really help.

On another note, I can't believe you've been out and about already. Well done you. As well as being too scared to go out just yet - I look like I'm 6 months pregnant! I usually have a flat stomach (I had a tummy tuck after my 3rd child 19 ish years ago). But now I look awful. Apparently I'm told this is normal and will settle down but right now I don't even think I'd get my clothes on :( oh the joys of being a woman!!

gingeme · 18/04/2014 15:52

Why do you have poo problems ? Is it because of the co codamol ? I'm dreading the bloating bit. I get it quite often and it can be so painful Sad

Pasithea · 18/04/2014 15:58

I had a total. Cervix ovaries everything hysterectomy at. 26. I will be honest and say it's not all been good since. I am now 45.

Pm me anyone if you have any questions. Hugs to you all.

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 16:08

I'm not sure exactly why there are bowel problems post op. I do know that during surgery the bowel is pumped full of air to separate it from other internal organs and to get to other organs more easily. My consultant told me that while I was in hospital. Morphine and other meds are a contributing factor. I have not been on co-codamol myself. I'm just finishing a course of dihydrocodein which may be similar.

Today I am 11 days post surgery and I'm holding on to everyone's words that this will apparently make me into a new woman :)

Beastofburden · 18/04/2014 16:09

Waves, hello, ladies. Always nice to see this thread pop up again. I am kevinsbowel, can't be bothered with all the name changing any more.

I have just had this week off. First break since early January when I went back to work, six weeks after my OP (keyhole, tubes, ovaries and uterus out, kept the cervix). Just to say, I feel great and life without the massive periods is wonderful.

Now I just need to lose a stone Blush

Beastofburden · 18/04/2014 16:11

My nn was after a sulky bowel, ironically. Apparently the bowel has to be pushed it of the way and it hates that. That said, I didn't get all that much grief from mine. But I avoided morphine, which does make it worse.

winnybella · 18/04/2014 17:02

Jane777- yes, the swollen/ bloated stomach! I think it was flatter when I was leaving the hospital then now, nine days post op. Doesn't exactly seem to be wind [ confused] very odd.

Beastofburden · 18/04/2014 17:05

They inflate your gut so they can get to it, especially with keyhole. It goes down over about three weeks, and there is this really odd feeling as the organs settle back into the cavity, like a ship settling down onto silt when the water level drops. Sometimes the air escapes via your shoulders and hurts there, even more weird. But normal.

Pasithea · 18/04/2014 17:34

I drank loads of hot pepermint cordial. Really helps with the bloated ness wind and related pains especially shoulder.

LackaDAISYcal · 18/04/2014 18:06

Hi Jane, glad you found us Smile and thanks passithea for sharing; it must have been hard at 26 though. I am still struggling with the though of my lost fertility at 45 and knowing that I don't want any more children. I've decided not to think about it like that; it's just another organ I can live without, much like my shoddy gallbladder a few years ago!

yes to the bloated stomach. I am wearing jogging bottoms as I can't fit into any of my regular trousers/jeans, even though I've not put any weight on. I'm not bad in the morning in the morning, but by lunchtime I have started to balloon out and by mid afternoon I'm walking like I'm 8.5 months pregnant, complete with waddle! I'm just waiting for someone to ask me when I'm due Grin Desperate to be able to start wearing normal clothes again; though I micht but some elasticated linen trousers just so I can feel almost normal.

I have overdone it today. Been in the garden, and although I was only pruning and planting, I have done lots of bending up and down. I'm also sunburned which is just stupid of me. I have sun sensitive lupus and I am usually pretty vigilant, but I just didn't think it was hot enough to do any damage especially as it was cloudy this morning when we started. Better dig out my factor 50 again for the duration of the summer

and sorry for my swearing last night Blush I had had wine and was quite cross!

Jane777 · 18/04/2014 18:21

Wine! Are we allowed wine? :) Going stir crazy in this house already!! In so much pain. I was back at the hospital yesterday cos I was worried about my cut. It kept bleeding on one side, looked yellow and open so I wanted to get it checked out. It's fine. They've put another dressing back on it and told me to slow down! I can't get any slower. I'm doing nothing apart from walking around my tiny living room every hour! I really don't know how I'm gonna get through this. I'm so bored but can't do Jack cos of this pain. I filled up a pint glass of water today and couldn't even carry it from my kitchen to my living room. I put a maxi dress on yesterday to go to the hospital and I'm not joking I look 6 months pregnant! I hate it. All I can do all day is smoke and eat! Recipe for disaster on both counts!!! Argghhhhhhh. We shouldn't wish our lives away but I wish I could fast forward 2 months. This boredom is killing me.

Rant over, thanks for listening. Hi everyone (waves) I'm not normally this miserable. Bad day :(

gingeme · 18/04/2014 18:32

I have a box of peppermint tea ready. I've tried a couple of cups. Not too bad. A bit like chewing gum when it starts losing its taste. I have 2 maxi dresses so will probably living in those for a good whileSmile I had a erm camera in my belly button when they first discovered my endometriosis and they filled my belly with air then. I was asked a couple of times when I was due lol Hmm
