How long does the trapped wind last?

notapizzaeater · 25/06/2014 23:04

A few days it was really bad, now day 9 it's still "there" but just a dull pain ....

orangeplum · 25/06/2014 23:17

5 weeks in my hair has started to moult really badly - has anyone else found this? I can't believe how much has fallen out in the last few days.

LackaDAISYcal · 26/06/2014 00:08

Hi Atsea, and good luck for the morning. I had a lap/vaginal procedure almost 12 wees ago. Very different to a Csection, but on about the same level of overall pain I'd say. The external wounds were nothing, my dressings were taken off the following day! Internally, different story; much more going on then a hysterectomy, and more wind as more shoved about with internally and blown up with air during the procedure.

Take all and every pain relief offered; as someone said keeping it at bay is better than trying to make it go away. I had a morphine shot late afternoon on the day of mys surgery plus codiene and paracetomol regularly. Late evening they gave me a suppository; can't remember what though, then it was just oral from there on in. At home after two days and I had paracetomol, diclofenac and codeine, and I was off the codeine by about day 10 post op; just the odd paracetomol, but I have to take diclofenac daily for my joint condition anyway so that kept me topped up I guess.

The main thing is not lifting or overdoing things. Really believe them when they say that. I didn't and probably set myself back. And rest. I was less tired after an EMCS after 48 hour labour than I was with this. I guess it's all the internal stuff going on.

Back at work since Monday. All good till tonight; we have a new client who is rather large and has to be hoisted. Not good. I have to go to her again in the morning, but I am going to tell my office that I can;t do it yet. All my lower abdomen and back is feeling very achey now. I'm also going to pay for some private physio to help me get some core strength back as I am suffering.

Love to all...sorry for the wordy, yet fleeting, visit!!

notapizzaeater · 26/06/2014 08:50

Good luck, sure it will be fine.

The suppository pain killer might be diclofenac - I luurrvves thisGrinGrin

Letspretenditsnothappening · 26/06/2014 09:12

Good luck atsea - see you on the other side! Thanks

TheOriginalNutcracker · 26/06/2014 12:39

Good luck atsea Smile

Pain wise I've been very luck, especially considering they opened me up twice.

I had morphine, paracetamol and codeine for 48 hours after surgery, then I dropped the morphine and I dropped the codeine after 4 days.
Since I've been home I've just taken paracetamol/ibuprofen as and when I need it but I haven't really been in pain.

I've had one bout of trapped wind where I thought I might die lol but otherwise things have been ok there too.

It's 2 weeks tomorrow since my second op and I am starting to feel more able to do things like wash up, make dinner etc but still not doing housework or any lifting.

marymoocow · 26/06/2014 13:16

Good luck atsea. The pain really isn't anything to worry about.
How though can hanging out the washing and then climbing the stairs be sooo tiringHmm . I always thought I had experienced being tired.......this is in another league.

SkivingAgain · 27/06/2014 14:27

Hi ladies, I was lurking on here in May then 'lost' this thread. I've found it really helpful as I too needed a total abdo hysterectomy which took place on 2nd June. My experience has been fantastic and I wonder if that's because I was on 'enhanced recovery programme' which I wonder if anyone else had. I've had no pain other than from diarrhoea (apologies) which was a reaction to one of the antibiotics. I'm taking it easy but have been out and about walking since about 5 days post-op, albeit at a snails pace :-) and no painkillers since leaving hospital. I've been surprised how well and quickly i've recovered.

AtSea1979 · 27/06/2014 15:42

Hi, I came out of theatre yesterday 5pm.
4 lapro holes and vag.
Was quite happy in bed with morphine button but they took it off me and made me sit out. Gave me codeine and keep vomiting now. So back in bed but in pain as I refused anymore codeine. Still got catheter in but expect they insist on removing it soon.
Doc wanted me to go home this eve, no chance, was quite tearful when she told me this as I'm not ready and feel I'm being pushed too early.

AtSea1979 · 27/06/2014 15:45

Doc hasn't really explained the op, I know I ha total hysterectomy but when they removed my cervix do they sew it up at the back? Create a vag cul-de-sac? It's not open is it?

notapizzaeater · 27/06/2014 15:48

Hugs - are they giving you anything for the sickness ? The tramadol and the anti b was making me Ill so I had an anti sickness pill half an hour before I had them. They took me off the tramadol and gave me diclofenac suppositories (best thing ever !!)

I wouldn't have been happy leaving the hospital,so soon either.

What's the enhanced recovery path ?

SkivingAgain · 27/06/2014 19:16

Hi Pizza, the enhanced recovery seemed to mainly consist of some preop drinks, a spinal block and getting on your feet after 24 hours. I didn't have a drain or a morphine pump that others have talked about. Other than that, I don't know how it differs.

AtSea1979 · 27/06/2014 22:33

Now on oral morphine, less sick than codeine. Catheter in situ until 6am so hopefully get some sleep. I hope they don't push me home tomorrow. Managed to transfer to chair and bed but how they think I can walk to the carpark by tomorrow I'll never know.
Waiting for night staff to hand over and give me meds, its well past my bedtime.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/06/2014 23:22

lol mary; I have lupus and thought I had fatigue all figured out till my hysterectomy!

LackaDAISYcal · 27/06/2014 23:26

AtSea, vaginal cul-de-sac is about right! It took me a considerable time to get my head round that. I had a footle around at 10 weeks post op, and cul-de-sac about sums it up Confused Hasn't interfered with function though Wink

AtSea1979 · 28/06/2014 09:08

Thanks for the info. Very sore today with trapped wind and shoulder/neck pain not helping either. Catheter out, haven't tried walking yet but will have to soon.

notapizzaeater · 28/06/2014 10:14

Have they got any peppermint tea ? Or tablets for trapped wind, mine kept giving me both

notapizzaeater · 28/06/2014 10:15

I'm now 12 days post op and I still start walking liking an old woman hunched up, straightening up as I walk.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 28/06/2014 15:22

I keep wondering exactly what it's like up there now in the culdesac lol.

I'm single and have to say I am very worried about ever letting any man go there again, because what if it's awful.

Doesn't help that when I was researching my Op I read a post from a bloke saying how sex with his wife since her op was hardley worth it .

AtSea1979 · 28/06/2014 17:32

Oh no, blokes actually said that? How sad.
Had peppermint tea this morning but not been offered any since. Can I get it from tesco to have when I get home? Is there any over the counter tablets for bloatedness?

notapizzaeater · 28/06/2014 17:38

I bought Windeeze tablets and peppermint oil tablet ( think u might need a holland and Barrett sort of shop for this - mine from amazon)

Whatba horrid horrid man !
