New Thread...
Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

And yes, I've never drunk as much peppermint tea as I have this last 2 weeks

LackaDAISYcal · 28/06/2014 21:55

My DH said he didn't think it was any different. And he isn't one to soft soap me. He didn't even know I was angsty about it. I was worried about lack of multiple orgasms as I read that the womb and cervix play a part but all seems good there too Blush

Daisy that's good to know.
I think I will be going home this morning. Just waiting for the doctor to do his rounds. Missing my kids now, tbh hadn't given them much thought up til now, just been focusing on getting myself sorted now I woke up aching for them. Be awhile until then can climb all over me tho.
My new DP has been brilliant, only been seeing him a matter of months but going through this together has made us so close. He's visited everyday and yesterday he held my hand, and catheter bag, while I stood up. Love isn't diamonds and flowers, its little things like that which make me realise how deep our feelings run. I just worry that I'll never be able to repay him.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 29/06/2014 10:09

Just a wee line so I don't lose this from TIO, will post properly later Thanks

notapizzaeater · 29/06/2014 11:27

I'm now day 13, one side of my tummy is quite swollen and it hurts (the both hurt at day 1 but now just this said ) , the other side is ok ? Is this normal ?

marymoocow · 29/06/2014 12:14

Had a quick trip to minor injuries unit today, as my wound started weeping (5 weeks 4 days post opAngry ). Finally managed to convince someone to remove the 'soluble' stitch ends, have small dressing over the end that's weeping, and very strong antibiotics. So glad I didn't wait until tomorrow to try and get in at the GP's surgery Smile .
Hope everyone else is healing well. Aches and pains do swap from side to side as things move and settle down, but any worries go and get them checked out straight awayThanks .

AtSea1979 · 29/06/2014 13:04

Oh Mary that doesn't sound pleasant, hope u r feeling a bit more comfortable now they have snipped your stitches. Might already feel like they are pulling a bit so I can't imagine yours were comfortable 5 weeks on

marymoocow · 29/06/2014 13:37

To be honest its still quite numb all round the wound, so not particularly uncomfortable until the last couple of days. Hopefully this is the last thing and I can get on with life. Still another 2 weeks until I go back to see the surgeon. Not sure why I've had an 8 week waitHmm .
In the house news, soffits and facias completed, although the gutter is leaking so they'll have to come back. Windows are being replaced on Tuesday, and DH has arranged more house valuations this week. And so I have discovered that I can dust, but not a lot else.

notapizzaeater · 29/06/2014 14:17

Oh Mary you're not having a good recovery Angry

marymoocow · 29/06/2014 14:58

Thank you Pizza. Its had its ups and downs, but I'm sure it could be worse Grin .

AtSea1979 · 29/06/2014 22:49

Need some advice, was discharged this afternoon.
3 days post op.
But now I'm home I've noticed I smell terrible down there, my pads stink and when I wee. Not sure if its the blood or urine infections, guessing former due to pads smelling too. Did anyone else smell bad? Or should I be concerned and ring hosp tomorrow for advice re antibiotics

notapizzaeater · 29/06/2014 22:58

Are you not on any ? My doctor put me on them straight away. I didn't smell but I wasn't vaginally.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 29/06/2014 23:10

I would ring the ward now, smell should not be bad, at this early stage I would expect it to just be fresh blood tbh. I had abdominal surgery, but cervix was removed too so different procedure but to the same ends.

And a good evening to you all too!

6 weeks tomorrow and I had a bit of a word with myself today. Stuffed my nasty lounging about clothes to the back of the wardrobe and decided to join the human race again - squeezed my sofa-shaped bum-cheeks back into my jeans and did stuff.

Ok, most of it was sitting down whilst being driven about, but went and bought a new bed for the dog, visited DS and his family very briefly, came home and sort of cooked dinner (frozen roast potatoes are ace)

JennyOnTheBlocks · 29/06/2014 23:19

I washed up all the dishes myself, and even contemplated a bath Shock but by the time I had the opportunity I was too knackered.
I'm still getting a sort of burning feeling at the very edge of the wound, where the stitch was poking through, and that side is hanging far lower than the other, so something to keep an eye on.

Mary, I'm still getting slightly sticky patches, I think the cream takes care of small bits but am loathe to take antibiotics as they really don't settle with me, was suspected of having Cdiff in hospital it was so b
I've not had a furtle about up the cul-de-sa'm

JennyOnTheBlocks · 29/06/2014 23:25

Bloody phone

not had a furtle about up the cul-de-sac yet, bit scared tbh. How daft is that?
I had a mirena for years, so used to feeling for the strings, but now there's nothing to feel, how do it know what's normal Confused

I don't get a follow-up appt with the consultant, had a letter to say all growths were benign (woo hoo!) So no need to come back.

Felt a bit like a 'Dear John' in a way.

HRT is working though, not had a night flush for weeks

LackaDAISYcal · 30/06/2014 00:03

AtSea; I never had any smell but all the literature I got about recovery said to report any foul smell to GP or ward immediately as indicates infection.

Call them first thing; you want to nip it in the bud.

Well I've just about survived my first week at work. I was supposed to be getting broken in gently, but my 18 hours was somehow transformed into 30 and I have a size 26 woman as a new client who has to be hoisted and rolled. Though we have kit to help with it all; it's still very physical; moving a mobile hoist on plush carpet is not an easy gig! I am knackered and sore and back there again in the morning. I need to have a word with my office Confused

AtSea1979 · 30/06/2014 10:01

I will have a shower this morning and a proper clean around. No one helped me at hospital so I just pointed shower in that general area so hopefully might just need a good wash but if it still smells after I'll ring ward and see what they advise (sorry tmi this early in morning!)

AtSea1979 · 30/06/2014 10:03

The advise said sex 4-6 weeks after. I very much doubt I'll be ready for that then.

LackaDAISYcal · 30/06/2014 11:35

I was eight weeks post op before I could even entertain the idea of DH anywhere near me!

Hope things are OK and there isn't any infection

OP posts:
AtSea1979 · 30/06/2014 13:48

Got a very strange rash on inside of thighs now, like a dark red almost purplish rash. Not sore or anything. Anyone else had this?
Maybe its a reaction to the iodine stuff they put on before op or something.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 30/06/2014 14:09

AtSea

Please if you haven't done so yet, please call the ward

That sounds like someone should take a look

notapizzaeater · 30/06/2014 15:03

have you phoned hospital ? That doesn't sound good ....

AtSea1979 · 30/06/2014 22:37

Not rang the ward no. Rash is probably a reaction to the iodine/betadine stuff though it isn't covering the whole area where it was. Smell is much less now I've had a good clean down there so I'm not overly worried.
Rash is beginning it feel uncomfortable, around knicker elastic etc it's from my fanjo around inside of thighs and worse around my bum. Maybe it's like a sweat rash but I don't feel sweaty and I've never suffered from it before.
How long until the hot sweats kick in?

LackaDAISYcal · 30/06/2014 23:25

sounds odd AtSea; if no better in the morning I'd ring and get the rash looked at. Have you tried some piriton or something?

OP posts:
AtSea1979 · 01/07/2014 08:58

Hi, no haven't taken anything or tried an cream on it, just left it. Its a bit prickly but with the tummy ache I barely notice it.
