Hi, does anyone have any advice re the above. My patner stood on a sea urchin last week in Turkey ( in the sea, obviously, not at the airport ) and the advice was leave it for 2 / 3 days and the six or so spines would work their way out. He's loathe to go the doctor, but is in pain and they've shown no signs of exiting said foot. Advice??

Treading on a sea urchin is painful but not usually dangerous, as the majority are non-venomous.

The spines are fragile and break off in the skin. Superficial spines can be dissolved by soaking the affected area in vinegar several times per day and/or applying a vinegar compress.

If the area shows signs of infection, antibiotics may be necessary. Rarely surgical removal of a deep spine may be necessary.
