I think you're supposed to hold your back straight (keeping your head held up) and bend your legs a little, your leg muscles should do the 'work'. If they can't do nearly all the work, the load is too heavy for you. Can you move her to edge of the bed before lifting? You shouldn't bend over (your back) at all when holding the load.

I was advised to never ever hold a baby or child on the hip (easier said than done I know). It might not be relevant in your case Orinico but thought I should mention it. Apparently we should always carry in the centre in front of us whenever possible.

Could you perhaps wake her just enough that she walks to the bathroom, albeit with lots of support from you?
