Sinus washout and widening nasal passages

Hi all

Next week my sister is having this done under GA. I am quite anxious about it and how much pain she will be in/the procedure itself and recovery time.

Anyone got any experience and can enlighten me?

I had this done many years ago, from what I remember the worst part was post op they filled my nostrils with gauze which absolutely killed when they pulled them out (they may not do this now) also quite vomity after, which may have been a reaction to the GA, the healing pain was no worse than a moderate bout of sinusitis which she's probably used to! It was well worth it for me, I had a constantly runny nose and monthly sinusitis episodes which the op totally cured, hope it all goes well.

Thanks tshirt. She's really been suffering with sinusitus for a few years now- as soon as she gets a sniffle it turns into full blown sinusitus. Hoping it sorts her out but nervous for her.

I had sinus surgery just over a year ago. Its a bit sore afterwards of course but paracetamol or cocodamol was adequate for most of it. Just don't accidently catch your nose! Its best to not use tight clothes that have to be pulled over the head, at least for the first couple of days! Its not very major surgery. Depending on what has been done ( I effectively had 4 surgeries in one) it will require 1-4 weeks off work to recover. You cannot breath through your nose when you wake up (or for quite a few weeks after depending on what's done and the resulting swelling) as the nose will be packed to stop bleeding. The packing is usually removed a day or two later. I had to sleep sitting up for a while too. Sutures are used if there is surgery to straiten the septum, but they dissolve on their own.
Once everything settled life was a lot easier. I still get sinus infections - just not as often or persistent now my sinuses can drain better. HTH and good luck chesty and dizzies sis.
