When do babies start teething?

My DS is 15 weeks today and has been chewing on his fingers for a couple of weeks as well as shoving everything available into his mouth. MOst recently he's started putting my fingers in his mouth and just pressing down on them with his gums rather than sucking as he used to. He has also become much more vocal. Could he be teething?

Hello. DS has been doing this for ages! He's 9 months old and STILL a little gummy bear. I'm wondering where those peggies are

In a word yes!my ds had 2 teeth at 5 months, although teething is a long process they can show all the signs and not much else for a while before any little teeth pop through.Hope this helps

maybe, maybe not. It was always a bit of a mystery to me. The best signs with ds were high temps without seeming ill, and vomity-smelling nappies (tmi, sorry!).

I think the average for the first tooth is around 6mo, but it can be earlier.

Thanks guys - it would seem he probably is teething even if there are no teeth showing now. At least he doesn't seem too unhappy about it for now!

Yes, he could be teething or he could just be chewing. My ds started having the signs of teething at a few months, but didn't produce his first tooth until 11 months.
