Getting fatter - fast!

Ok, so I had Implanon (contraceptive implant) put in about 10 weeks ago. All info on this suggests that only 6% ish of women experience any weight gain.

Hmmmm, looks like I must be one of those. I've now put on a stone since having it fitted. I went to the Dr's, who said "Implanon is a very good contraceptive, I'm reluctant to remove it, women of a certain age lay down fat, just get more exercise". OK, I'm 32yo and I really don't think that weight should go on that fast, I eat healthily 95% of the time, I cycle about 40 miles a week, run about after the kids all day and look after my mum, I don't have much time to just sit and let the fat pile on. Until I hd it fitted I was steadily losing weight, only about 7lb's to go till I reached my pre-pregnancy weight, now I've got 1.5st!!

So is it me or was I just fobbed off? Do GP's have numbers they try to meet for each form of contraceptive or something?

Whatever it is, I'm thinking when I get back from my hols in a fortnight I should get it removed.

Anyone with any experience of Implanon itself?

FF - I was thin b4 I met DH (about 7.5st wet through) but as I'm only 5'2" with a 'petite' frame I wasn't bothered to reach 8.25st before I got pg. Was happy at that weight and shape and would like to be around that mark again.

I've been working quite hard to get my weight down and get back into some sort of unwobbly shape and was pleased I was getting there. Eating sensibly, snacking on fruit etc, cutting out the cakes and biscuits, and getting more exercise. Doing it all right.

GP says to take more exercise! I'm on the go almost all day, I find it hard enough to fit in the exercise I do at the moment, I just can't fit in anymore what with working, kids and looking after my mum.

I just think she was fobbing me off. Said I wouldn't keep putting weight on, but I have.

I had implanon since October and no side effect. I am very happy with it and don't have any problem with weight gain. When i had the implant, i was told by the nurse to keep it for at least 6 months before wanted to remove it if any side effects occured. I was dreading any side effects at that time but did put in my mind to keep it for at least 6 months if anything. My period started 5 months after the implant was put in so I imagine it takes time for your body to get use to it. Good luck and I hope you haven't book the appointment yet, give it maybe an other chance

sunandmoon - hmmmm was never told about this 6 month thing by the nurse or even by the gp when I went to ask about it. TBH it's been getting on for 3 months now and I've put on a stone which to me to too much. I was put on AD's for a short period at the beginning of the year as was depressed over a few things one of which was my weight/appearance since having the kids. To be working so hard to get back on track mentally and physically and then for it all to go wrong and the only thing to change is the implanon it's quite upsetting.

I've not booked my appt yet, but if I've put on any more weight when I get back from my hols I'll be knocking their door down to get it taken out as I don't think I could bear it if I put on much more, I know it wouldn't take much for me to give up on the healthy eating and exercise, and gaining weight regardless of it would, I think, just push me more than a few steps back.

I hope you have good holidays, it looks like you deserve it. You know your body better than anyone else so your decision can only help to make yourself better. All the Best
