Change in bowel movements when i have my period

madchocolatemum48 · 14/03/2014 16:14

My period has started to come back after 4 years with the coil. I never noticed before but am really aware now that when I am bleeding my bowel movements are so much softer, and much more frequent.
Does this happen to anyone one else?

Yes, think it is quite normal.

Bankholidaybaby · 14/03/2014 16:51

It's the prostaglandins clearing you out. Totally normal.

fruitloop84 · 14/03/2014 16:52

Yes I get this too much worse since I had my second child.

FannyFifer · 14/03/2014 17:07

Yup, quite loose stools here when have my period.

Thurlow · 14/03/2014 17:16

Yep, perfectly normal. I hate it. Heavy periods plus soft, frequent poo? Eurgh.

sooperdooper · 14/03/2014 17:19

Yeah I've always had this

sparkle101 · 14/03/2014 17:33

snap!

I too get this, but as the week before my period I get bad constipation it is always a bit of a relief - and together with the loss of the water retention I get the week before as well, normally means I drop 3 lbs easily - nice when you are trying to lose several stone before summer, as I am. Grin

PowderMum · 15/03/2014 17:51

Yes I always had this added bonus!
My DD always gets constipation, but she is only a teenager and hasn't had any DC yet.

flow4 · 16/03/2014 08:50

Yup. It feels healthy to me: nature's very own clear-out! :)

Orangeisthenewbanana · 16/03/2014 08:51

Yes, I get that too. Always have.

I used to get this too, and felt I was getting a mini detox every month as a result.

Mercymeee · 16/03/2014 09:02

Painful bowel movements during periods, I believe, are also related to endometriosis.

TheLightPassenger · 16/03/2014 09:05

often happens with me as well. when I'm not on the pill my periods are heavy and painful, so have often wondered about endo tbh.

Back2Basics · 16/03/2014 09:18

I get this to.
