Are family planning/sexual health services on the decline?

I want to get a coil fitted.

On the advice of MNetters I decided that a family planning clinic would be preferred over GP.

Our county NHS trust no longer offers family planning/GUM services. It has been outsourced to another NHS trust 50miles away.
There is no dedicated family planning clinic/GUM clinic within 20miles of me unless I am under 25. There are a couple of GP surgeries that are regarded as "specialist providers".

So now I have to see my own GP for a coil. Take up 4 appointments to have it done (1 for swabs/sexual health history and 2-3 for fitting and another to have it checked in 6 weeks).

sigh. This was supposed to be easy. What would happen if I wanted the coil fitted within 5 days as an emergency contraceptive?.

Yup 'fraid so.

Locally ( and probably country wide?) there is a process afoot looking at " any qualified provider" putting forward bids etc to restructure it too.
