HRT

I'm about to make an appointment with my GP as I am now fairly certain that I'm starting the menopause. I know it's probably early days but I'm wondering about HRT. Mil took it, my mum didn't and certainly I had a feeling that mil seemed to age more slowly and have more energy than my mum did. But I know there are side-effects. I am totally ignorant of the subject.

Anyone here taken HRT? Did it improve things? What were the problems if any?

TIA

I shall be interested to see what feedback you get joelallie - for not so distant reference

I actually had an appointment with Menopause nurse yesterday. HRT was briefly mentioned, but as it is early days yet, she suggested waiting until we know how manopause will affect me. Apparently some people just stop having periods with virtually no other signs, but obviously some people have a bad time. So I'm giving it some time, before I venture into that line of thinking. But I will still be interested others experiences.

Current BMC guidelines are to only give HRT if menopause symptoms are too unbearable to cope with. You'll only be given it then after warnings about its risks.
