Come and diagnose me - stomach pain after eating...

I've booked a GP appointment for Monday but am googling in the meantime!

I've started to get stomach ache after eating or drinking orange juice - very painful and pretty sharp. Not gallstones as I had my gallbladder out last year! Pain's in the centre, fairly high up, so not bowel-type stuff.

I'm thinking ulcer? But have no idea really. Anyone had anything like this? Can do without it, frankly...

Bumping as I'm just going through a painful patch after eating tea! Have been fine all day but have only had water, green tea and a yoghurt during the day...

maybe gastritis or poss acid reflux, orange juice is very acidic so maybe just avoid it for a while!!

Badvoc · 19/02/2014 19:12

Could be gastritis.
Have you been taking NSAIDs recently!

DottyDot · 19/02/2014 19:31

No not taking anything other than usually thyroxine. Will look up gastritis..!

I wonder whether its a gastritis type virus as I had this for a few days but its gone now.

dottyDot it is interesting you mention Thyroxine. I was recently on this and have suffered stomach issues since November. The most recent issue was very bad stomach pains after anything I ate. This has been going on for me since mid/end of Jan, so I was advised to come off it. I was only put on it because my levels were not under 2 and I had wanted to get pregnant, well this is not much of an option naturally anymore so I came off of it, but I still have problems it seems.
I read a whole bunch of people suffer from stomach issues while on Thyroxine. Mainly Gastritis related.

DottyDot · 20/02/2014 19:53

That's interesting. I've been on thyroxine for 15 years and am on a pretty high dose (250mcg) but have never have stomach problems until the past few weeks.

Will see what the GP says - at least gastritis will go away so I'm hoping it's that!

Grr. Still happening - I had to come home from work yesterday and am in bed now after another attack this morning. Absolutely knackered and fed up because I've cut out pretty much everything I like to eat and drink and it's still happening! GP on Monday - hope they have a magic cure... Confused

Have you tried any indigestion / reflux type remedies like gaviscon to see if that helps? I get hideous attacks sometimes, really agonising, despite having medication for it, but gaviscon advance which you an only buy from the pharmacy is the only one that works when it's very painful - is very effective. Might be worth a try til your appointment?

I get terrible indigestion and used to get that pain. The doctor gave me omeprazole and it worked really quickly.

DottyDot · 22/02/2014 16:37

No I haven't bought anything like that because I used to have very bad indigestion when I was pregnant and it's not that kind of pain, so I didn't think that would work. I took 2 paracetamol and 2 buscopan (left over from gallstones last year!) this morning and it seemed to make the pain go away quicker, which is good. Seems to be particularly after breakfast and I've been fine for the rest of today. Ho hum.
