ds(8) has complained of a headache a few times over the past day or so, been a bit lethargic and started to run a temperature earlier on. Put him to bed at about 7.15 with a dose of Nurofen, checked on him just before 8 and he was just about still awake but drowsy , sweaty and his eyes looked vague. Brought him downstairs for a drink and he seems more with it now so he's back in bed as he is dogtired.

I think he's been out of it once before with a fever and imagined things but I find this sort of behaviour quite scary. He has no other pains , light aversion or rash. Is it usual and will it be ok once his temperature goes down ?

Dd has hallucinations when she has a high temperature - her eyes look vague too. Can you keep his room cool - open the windows, give him a fan, strip him off?

Unless he gets other symptoms, I'd just keep up the Nurofen, alternated with paracetamol, and see how he's doing in the morning.

thanks , we've opened the window and put a fan on now . He insists on snuggling under the duvet so will take it off when he's properly asleep.

Seems to have cooled down now. How long before he can have Calpol, just in case ?

calpol can be given 4-6 hours but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours so roughly 1115. also tepid sponge him that should help

He woke up this morning happy and perky and has gone off for an actviity day at school. He remembers being downstairs and going back to bed but not waking up and behaving strangely. All very odd.
