Just bathed my 3 children DS1 5.9 DS2 2.2 and DD 7 mths. When I rinsed the shampoo off DS1 hair i could see the nits in his hair. I am so shocked but I know most kids get them. Has anyone got a reccomendation on which treatment shampoo to buy. Also I presume that ALL bedding needs to be washed but is a 40 degree wash hot enough or should it be hotter... any advice/information will be VERY greatfully recieved. TIA

here's the link to the Hedrin thread, fairly inconclusive so far though

and I always, always, go thro their hair now once a week to keep on top of things, so to speak. If they have them that week, then I wash again on a tuesday, on thurday and then again as normal on a sunday...so only three times a week.(for the hair washes that is....mine bath everyday otherwise)

and like cat64....one of my girlies gets lots, one occasionally, one hardly ever. it goes the same tho with mozzie bites. same girlie who gets lice the most, get bitten the most! she must have sweeter blood, or a higher body temp or something...

tis strange!!!

i had to do the nit combing thing on my 5 year old last night. i can't believe i didn't see this thread before i did them! i broke the blinkin comb on my head too checking for them.

i'm so annoyed i didn't notice them before.

our hairdresser sells the nitty gritty comb - nearly bought one on saturday as struggling with the beasts atm. will back today to get one.

we had our first bout about 4weeks ago (dd1 (3) and me). Used Lyclear as it was bad and then used it again 7 days later.

Noticed more a couple of days ago in dd2 (10mths) hair but went down the conditioner and combing route - gp wasn't happy about putting the lotions on her hair.

heiferjamese · 07/08/2006 15:28

How will I know if my DD has lice? I know her nursery has some cases the other week, but not really sure what to look for?

Is it very obvious in the early stages?

I know, I should know, but don't....

Please please lovely people can you tell me where to order a nitty gritty comb from?I was up past midnight combing dd hair after I discovered some lice.Dh broke the comb so I have to look for our electric one today to do some more combing.I've been to every chemist open this am and none of them have the nitty gritty. After reading about it on here I have to have one.

layla · 13/08/2006 14:26

Heiferjamese you can buy an electric comb which just uses batteries from boots,it's really good.I find it hard to just check their hair by just looking, the lice are sort of browny like hair and a bit see through. But if you just have a little look with the comb every week it should be enough. You can definately spot them once they have them, especially if you find a big one.

lexiemum · 13/08/2006 14:38

our small independant hairdressers sell them.

soemone mentioned further down that you can go on the nitty gritty website and print off a letter for the gp to get one on prescription.

lexiemum · 13/08/2006 14:44

Wow,That's brilliant info thanks.I can't beleive I haven't got any,or anyone else-just dd poor thing. She's got absolutely loads of them, well she did until I just wet combed them all out.

My dd went to a summer play scheme last week - loved it but cam e back with you know what..... Am combing every night and will do for two weeks till they;ve gone but..... I combed my (very long very thick) hair tonight and found a big one . Am quite happy to comb my hair every night for a fortnight too, but am going to hairdressers in a few days and am mortified that they will see and refuse to do me . However hopefully combing will get rid of the adults by then, but... does anyone know if bleaching (I'm having highlights) will finish off any young ones that I've missed and kill the eggs, or should I continue with the comb treatment? Which I might add is a complete pain in the ar$e with my hair.....
