Periconitis or bad cold do I see doctor or dentist

I have had a cold rumbling for a week or so with lots of snot, headaches etc then a few days into the cold my wisdom tooth gum started to hurt. I have a flap of gum next to the tooth that I can poke my tongue into and looking in the mirror where that is sore I can see a small white bump in the gum which I think is due to periconitis.

I have been feeling really rubbish this weekend but now my glands have swollen a lot on the side of my neck on the same side as my wisdom tooth. I am also experiencing earache on the same side and struggling just to drink water even.

Do I arrange to see dentist or doctor about these symptoms or do I just wait for it to get better?

? Any help.

I have to ring drs at 8 so should I go there or dentist. I think I have periconitis and a cold together so making me feel really ill.

Did you get sorted holiday? Sounds more like a dentist job to me, I have had similar. The infection had spread into my throat, ears and neck.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I went to dentist who advised that even though the area around my wisdom tooth was swollen he did not think it was infected.

He thought all other symptoms were down to my cold.

Hi I've got this right now! Cold plus flared up gum. I've got dentist appointment tomorrow. I think being run down by cold has opened the door for a pericoronitis flare up. I haven't had gum problem in this location before - have you?(given that you have a flap of gum).

No I have not had it before either.

You are right in your thinking as upon speaking to my dentist he advised that when you are run down by illness it can mean that gum problems happen as your immune system is low. Good luck for tomorrow mine is easing up as my cold is improving.

Yes, mine has flags up three times, each when my immunity was low. I am going heavy on the vitamins these days!

Mine was feeling and looking a bit better by time I saw dentist (cold easing off too). I'd been swilling with corsadyl and he advised to keep that up a few more days.
