1yr old passing out

My friends one yr old has passed out twice now; after she has fallen. It is not because she has hit her head; more to do with her being startled, and not intaking a breath - just a slient, elongated cry; which makes her pass out.

Has anyone else had this happen to their child? Does anyone have any advice they can give?

It's obviously v.stressful, and she just wants tips on how to deal with it (she's also going to speak to her gp).

I don't think it's uncommon (although not THAT common) A fried of mine has a little girl who does this too. The GP said if she does it again (holding her breath) to blow in her face. Not sure if it works though

cant really give advice except for the blowing in face thing . i have a problem wioth dd2 she gets very wound up when upset and has asthma so sometimes she struggles for breath and i blow in her face , it works for us

SpikeMomma sounds like a vaso vagil attack, like a faint, the nervous system has a sort of short circuit that gets tripped when she is startled.

I would suggest a visit to the gp for a hospital referral.

what you have described is a 'reflex anoxic seizure'

scary, but not 'bad'

there is a webgroup that can explain more than I can.....www.stars.org.uk

can't do links tho

they are wonderful and helpful and there is numbers to phone to speak to people who have kiddies doing the same.

there was a thread recently about someone here who's kiddie has it (one of my daughters has suffered, and my son used to have similar too)

will go find and point you towards

SpikeMomma · 02/08/2006 22:36

oh blimey - that sounds serious matnanplus. i used to go to school with a girl who used to black out - but i was hoping it was just a common thing some kids did... have you had experience with vaso vagil attacks?
