Private Prescriptions.........does anyone know...............

if a Dr. that isn't your own (or even an NHS one) can give you a private prescription?

Basically we need to get a private prescription for our Anti-Malarial tablets to take to Zimbabwe with us.

Our Dr.s Surgery are being complete ars*s about it and are refusing to issue us a prescription without registering with their 'travel clinic' first.......something which needs to be doneat least 6 weeks before we travel (we leave in just over 2 weeks). The Malaria tablets we need a prescription for only have to be taken 2 days before going to a Malarial area (which will actually be 3 weeks away).

We have a friend at church who runs his own (private) practice - would he be allowed to give us prescriptions even if he isn't our Dr.?

Don't want to call him and ask him if it's a big no no IYKWIM

Yes, you would get a private prescription if you had private treatment with BUPA for example, even if you have your own NHS GP.

Go on, ask him, you wont look silly .

Ive just found this as well, so I really cant see it being a problem for you at all.

Most BUPA and Nuffield hospitals offer a GP service, and I'm sure they would prescribe for you - although I suppose you'd have to pay for the consultation as well then.

Don't see why this should be any different to getting the jabs done privately at, say, an airport clinic. Ask him , if not he'll probably be able to tell you another way to get them.

You could also try MASTA who run travel health clinics where you can get jabs and anti malarials this is their website, if you live near any of the clinics!
