Weird periods

Just wondered if there were any wise MNers who've been through the menopause? I'm 41. Since my kids were born my periods have been very regular. But since last baby 3 years ago they got very very heavy but still only 3 days long and still regular. But in the last 12 months or so the cycle has got very irregular but shorter and much much heavier. This month my period stopped as normal and ever since I've had slight bleeding every few days.

Could this be the start of the menopause? If so do I need to see anyone about it? I'm dreading it - not 'cos it bothers me in itself but because my mum turned into a screaming irrational harridan during her's Come to think of it I am on a very short fuse atm. Help....please.

Hi this could be the start of menopause. What age did your mum have hers? The only way to know for sure is to have a hormone level taken. Your GP will be able to arrange this quite easily.

I think (if I remember rightly) my mum was about 10 years older than I am now. But thanks for the advice. I'll try to get an appointment with my GP then. Odd things are definitely happening.

Hi Joelallie, that's weird, I was going to post about the same thing. My symptoms are really similar to yours but I'm 43, so I guess it's even more likely to be menopause. But my mum said she was over 50 when she had hers and I know it sounds stupid to say, but i don't feel menopausal - ie I feel exactly like I've always felt! Keep thinking i should go to the docs as last few periods have been only 17 days apart, which is horrible. let me know how you get on.

Hi.. I know this is an old thread but was having a browse through as I am experiencing exactly the same periods as you mention. I turned 40 last year, had my youngest child 4 years ago now.
The last few periods have been ever so heavy for about 4 days. The last full one was at the beginning of January. Since I have had just odd spotting every few days, nothing worth using more than a panty liner for.
I have been having blood tests for a few weeks now as I have been feeling generally unwell, even depressed. This morning I had one for the hormones levels and sugar so hopefully something will show up to give me some answers.
I have been to the doctors more in the past year than ever in my life.

Did you get results to say if it was menopause or not? How have things been since?
