very smelly cradle cap

17 month old DD has always had a large amount of cradle cap on the top of her head. In the last week or so though it has got really smelly - even immediately after washing her hair, the smell of it is still enough to make you heave.

Does anyone know if this means it is now something more sinister than just cradle cap?

TIA

I loved the smell of my dd2's cradle cap, she still gets small patches (shes 3 now) but it no longer smells. Maybe your dd has got an infection might be worth taking her to the Dr to check if it smells that bad.

have you tried putting a little baby oil on it to soften it up a bit? my 5yr old still gets this a bit, i pick it off

I used olive oil on my dd's and picked it off, unfortunatley she no longer tolerates me doing this, so she does get small specks which I try and brush out with a bristle brush dabbed in olive oil

i think the smell is just due to it being soaked in sweat. my dss had it too. I tried all the olive oil, almond oil lentil lutions, but once it started to kick up like it sounds your dd's is (cheesy, yes?) I reached for the dentinox cradle cap shampoo & got rid of it pronto. Highly recommend it. my ds's smelt like my dh's feet. yuk. cradle cap shampoo. quick!

I can´t really describe the smell but it really is rank and nasty.
She has had a hat on this last week (we are on holiday just now) so could be sweat but the stench is such that I cant help but think it must be somehting more. I´ve made a doctors appt for when we get home.

My ds had very smelly cradle cap and we could not get rid of it - tried absolutely everything, eventually the took him to the gp and he said it was a kind of fungus and prescribed mild hydrocortisone cream - went overnight and never returned.
