Doing nothing more dramatic than washing my hair! Happened on Tuesday and is still getting worse. Ibuprofen not relieving the pain. I don't mind paying to see someone if it might help, but what sort of help should I look for?

Sorry you've hurt yourself, it always comes out of nowhere doesn't it? I have seen an osteopath in the past who has been great when I had neck problems and headaches. Or is there a private physio practice nearby? You could go to GP and get referred but then you may not need it by the time you're seen if there is a waiting list! Hope you feel better soon.

I have recurrent problems with my neck and found acupuncture really effective, I was lucky enough to have a gp who was trialling accupuncture for pain management. It was so good that I will go and get more treatment if i get any more flare ups. It also settled down my migraines for a while. I have friends who swear by osteopathy. In the meantime get yourself some crush eat or similar. They look a bit like sanitary towels, but you stick them on where it hurts and they warm up and stay warm for hours. My husbanfpd also finds ibuprofen gel really good. Hope you feel better soon x

Have a look on www.lssm.com and see if one of their practitioners is in your area. If you're in our area, come and see my husband.

In the meantime put some ice cubes in a tea towel and put that on the source of the pain for ten minutes, firt thing, mid morning, mid afternoon and evening. That should help.

I always feel I want heat, but ice actually works better!

I hurt my shoulder/neck area just by stretching and was in agony. I tried alternating with Ibuprofen and Paracetamol and heat pads, but nothing touched the pain so I went to the doctor after about a week. They gave me Codeine, it didn't kill the pain totally but meant I could relax. They also referred me to the surgery's physiotherapist who gave me some exercises to do. I wish I'd gone quicker now, so do see your doctor.
