Have horrible cystitis!

Have had it since Friday and it just won't go away, have tried the Canesten Oasis sachets and drinking lots of cranberry juice but woke up again with it this morning crippling me. I think I might have some kind of infection

Just not sure what else I can do until I can get to the docs tomorrow.

Think you'll just have to bear with it until getting to the docs - you have my sympathy - the last time I had cystitis I was weeing bright red all weekend until I could get to the docs and felt terrible!!!

Just keep drinking loads of water and cranberry juice.
Take some painkillers as well - they might help a bit.

mrsflowerpot · 30/07/2006 11:54

You poor thing, it is horrible isn't it. Paracetamol, if you're not already. Drink pints and pints of water, sitting on the loo if necessary.

And (look away if squeamish) what really really helps is to get in a warm bath and let yourself pee in it. When you're at that point where you need to pee all the time but only tiny drips come out, then it helps just to relax your bladder totally in the bath. obviously you will need a shower afterwards!

cymalon is quite good! ouch feel for you

crazydazy · 30/07/2006 11:57

Oh thats a good idea yes I think I will try that Mrs Flowerpot and I am going to go take some painkillers.

Its just the dull ache and the uncomfortable feeling - have never had it as bad as this, wouldn't mind if DP and I had been at it like rabbits but after 7 years together those days are long behind us. Just don't know whats triggered it at all.

DP is complaining as he wanted to go out today and I just can't as I have to be near the loo at all times.

I was even dreaming about finding a loo last night!!!

agree with mrs flowerpots idea of bath.. also drink lots lemon barly water. old wives' tale but sure helps. Rest, no trotting out today.

themoon66 · 30/07/2006 12:06

If you have cystitis you already have an infection.... get thee to the GP asap.

Do not drink cranberry whilst the infection is still there... it irritates and burns worse. Once the infection is gone... and only antibiotics will clear it... then you can drink cranberry every day to stop it coming back.

crazydazy · 30/07/2006 12:09

Oh I see I didn't know that at all.

Trouble is I have been off work 2 weeks as it is as I have had a nose operation and so not sure whether I can get to the docs, mind you at this rate and the way I feel I will have no choice in the matter.

You MUST go get antibiotics or the infection which is in your bladder will spread upwards into your kidneys. This happened to me and i ended up in hospital feeling like death.

When I feel the very first burning of cystitis these days I go straight to GP with my little bottle of wee. He dips the test strip in to confirm infection and give me the antibiotics straight away.

I am now an expert when it comes to cystitis.

crazydazy · 30/07/2006 12:58

Yes I have had a kidney infection too whilst I was pregnant with both kids - in fact that was why DD was born 5 weeks early!!!

Have pains in the bottom of my back now too so I definitely think I have a urine infection. My urine is very offensive too (sorry if TMI)

Will probably end up with the sack - I only work 2 days a week and have been off for 2 weeks on sick as it is.

They cannot sack you for being ill FGS. Also, you wont need time off for cystitis as it clears up very quick with the antibiotics.

crazydazy · 30/07/2006 13:13

I am going to make an appointment first thing and if it clears up quick I should be okay then, thanks again everyone.

Um, if you are having pains in your lower back, the infection may already be in your kidneys? Are you feeling generally unwell? I'd talk to NHS direct maybe ...

themoon66 · 30/07/2006 13:43

Pain in the lower back would suggest infection has reached your kidneys already. Do you feel feverish? Hot and cold, shivery etc? Chattery teeth?

mrsnoah · 30/07/2006 14:06

have had many kidney infections myself.. if the pain is there even slightly now, you should get antibiotics ASAP as by tomorrow the pain could be a LOT worse. Use the Call out GP or casualty
Sorry to scare you. Best wishes

Blandmum · 30/07/2006 14:24

Sit in a warm bath, drink loads and pee in the bath....I know this sounds gross, but it helps to flush out the nacteria and eases you pain loads. Soak for as long as you can and then , natural, have a shower at the end.

sorry if this was tmi, but I totaly agree with mrs flower pot, this used to help me when I used to get cystitis

crazydazy · 30/07/2006 15:04

Felt a bit hot and bothered first thing this morning, yes do believe its an infection so am going to head to the docs first thing.

Have had a bath and has helped a little, am still very uncomfortable whilst sitting.

The trials of being a woman eh??? Men don't know how lucky they are!!

I'm worried you'll be seriously ill by first thing tomorrow. Use on call GP or A+E to get antibs tonight, and you'll be ok by tomorrow.

crazydazy · 31/07/2006 12:08

Had an uncomfortable night and when to the docs first thing, put me straight on antibiotics and gave me a sick note for today which is good as I just can't sit down for too long as I am too uncomfortable. Have never had it this bad ever.

Thanks for all your replies.
