Conjunctivitus....does anybody know

what they'll do at eye cas? have got to go tomorrow if theres no improvement in the next 24hours.

Have had it for a week now,got some chloramphinical eye drops from chemist which after 5 days haven't shifted it, been to Gp this am who has prescribed fucidin ointment with the above instructions if it doesn't improve....only thing is I'm very squeemish with regards people prodding and poking eyes so I just wondered if anybody else had experienced eye cas with conjunctivitus?

had conjunctivitis before but always went with the drops

my dd had bad conjungtivitis, and had to take a course of antibiotics to clear it, as nothing else would.

Bumping incase the evening peeps can help me

Have had dd in the Opthamology dept twice due to re-occurring conjunctivitus.
They basically looked in her eyes with the normal light and looking thingy they use and then they put in drops to dialate the pupils to get a better look.
They always give her sweets for that as it can sting a bit but shes never been bothered by it. They also say the drops can impair your vision for a few hours after so they told me to expect lots of tripping up and falling over.
I would have hoped they would have informed you of this if that is what they were doing as driving probably wouldn't be a great idea!

If its still not responding after 5 days it could be something other than conjunctivitis.

I was once treated for what the GP thought was conjunctivitis but went back when it didn't respond. It turned out to be iritis/uveitis. GP sent me straight to the opthamology dept of the hospital where they examined me and gave me various drops.

The examination involved resting your chin on a frame like contraption (sorry, sounds a lot worse than it was ) whilst they examined your eyes with lights and lenses. They don't actually touch your eyeball but do put drops in sometimes. Its not at all painful I promise you but the drops can sting very briefly sometimes.

we have cleared up many an episode of conjunc with eye bright drops in cooled boiled water- from neil's yard.

Eye cas = Eye casualty

Thanks YF and BS, I feel much happier that they won't mess around with my eye other than drops.

Betty Spagetti, I'm pretty sure that it is conjunctivitus as have had similar in my other eye a few weeks back, but am wondering now if it is all due to my hayfever(not had it this badly since I was a teen, sometime ago now!) and excema that I have around my eye.

Might be blepharitis, an infection of the eyelashes. Can cause similiar symptoms to conjunctivitis.

Try bathing your eyes with cotton wool balls rinsed out in a very weak solution of water and baby shampoo. Wipe down over closed lids, dispose of cotton wool, repeat.
