Does the Pill make you feel sick?

I am on my second day of taking cilest, and I suddenly became quite ill today. I was wondering if it can be put down to taking a new pill. I was in the library this morning and when I stood up I felt extremely lightheaded so I went and had something to eat, which didn't help at all. I felt sick and like I was going to faint, and it lasted all afternoon, to the extent that I had to get someone over to help me with dd because if I wasn't lying down I felt naeseous. Would taking the Pill at night rather than first thing in the morning alleviate this?

I can only take the single pill. Whenever i took the 'normal' pill I had extreme headaches and sickness. Each time I tried to take them the symptoms got worse.

foxinsocks · 26/07/2006 21:25

yes, I would try and take it at night. You may find you wake up feeling nauseous (that's what happens to me!) but the feeling should pass (hopefully!).

Sometimes the side effects take a while to kick in - sometimes they happen straight away and then disappear so fingers crossed, this is the case for you.

Thank you. I just wasn't prepared for how suddenbly these symptoms came on, I was stranded in town with dd feeling too weak to push her buggy. Luckily some kind people helped me to the bus stop but it was horrible

poor you - perhaps you are coming down with something? if it continues, you should prob go back to the GP

littlelamb · 26/07/2006 21:29

I think I am just feeling a bit off generally, tbh. This period was quite late and I had horrendous PMT leading up to it, and I ended up getting quite low. Hopefully when it settles down the pill will help tackle that.

Hello LL

I took migrogynon30 for years and that made me feel sick eventually. After having dd I moved onto cilest and felt sickness etc straight away. If I were you I would try to take it at night and if you still get unwanted symtoms speak to the gp.

HTH

makes me feel permanently nauseous.

jackieglyn · 27/07/2006 11:21

you have to be careful if you feel ill on the pill, i once went to the docs when i first started taking it cause i felt unwell and sick and doc took me off it urgently. it can be very dangerous so be careful. if your unsure go to your doctors abd check.

Something to do with your blood pressure, especially if your your feel sicky and light headed.

Are u feeling any better now?

littlelamb · 28/07/2006 09:17

Actually no I was just popping on to say that I felt fine yesterday but now I feel awful again. I just want to lie down. Is it worth going to the doctors when it IS listed as one of the possible side effects?

Can't get an appointment at my doctors for love nor money. Would the walk in centre be able to help?

littlelamb, it is a common side effect (the feeling sick). I get it with every contraceptive brand. As it is early days you may want to wait it out to see if it gets better - sometimes this is the case (and the doc may prescribe you some anti-nausea pills to tide you over). Sometimes it doesn't go away and you and the doc may want to try a different brand of pill (perhaps one with less hormones in it). I assume the doc checked your bp before prescribing it?

Have you swapped to taking it at night? this does help but means you have a very nauseous start to the day.

foxinsocks · 28/07/2006 09:55

see if you can get an appointment with the nurse? at least they could take your bp to put your mind at rest

FlameSparrow · 28/07/2006 10:16

I would get sick 4 hours after taking it, I switched to taking it just before bed and was fine (until the night I decided to take it before a nightshift in a club so I didn't forget when I got home... threw up and sent home on my first shift ).

bubblez · 28/07/2006 15:11

LL have you considered looking into another form of contraceptive?

Maybe the marina coil or something?

The local family planning clinic should have advice on this.
