Hypochondria may be going into overdrive this morning....

Last night coming home from my evening class I man walking towards me had his arms full of stuff, a bottle dropped onto the ground and because I could see he still had his armsful and was in no position to pick it up, I picked it up for him. However the bottle managed to roll off the kerb of the pavement into a massive puddle. I was a bit like "eww no" but decided to pick it up anyway as I thought it would be a bit mean to just walk by and leave the man. So I managed to get my fingertips wet by this dirty road/rain water. I managed to wipe my hands on my coat and with some tissue paper but didn't have anything to wash them properly.

It was quite a long walk home so a little time after this, I bought some chips which I shovelled into my mouth. I then remembered my unclean hands and since then have been really paranoid that I have picked up some horrible disease from sticking my hands in the gutter. I'm not feeling ill or anything yet, but just feel like I've done something a bit gross.

I really think it's your anxiety that's the problem, here. What you did sounds like totally normal behaviour to me. Just think - kids virtually lick the pavement daily, and are fine Smile.
Try to focus on something else (e.g., what you've got to do now), and let the anxiety pass. Hope you feel more relaxed soon.

Thanks for your message Clock. I think it was just my anxiety going into overdrive. I managed to have a reasonably busy day and soon forgot all about it. I have not felt ill.
