Run out of Citalopram

minmooch · 04/01/2014 08:26

I take 40 mg of citalopram daily to help with anxiety relating to my DS sons illness (brain tumour).

I have requested a repeat prescription but it the weekend it was not processed in time. I did not have any to take last night. I thought I would be ok but had terrible anxiety dreams last night that kept waking me up. Drs surgery is closed today and tomorrow. Telephone voice mail says to call 111 if there is an emergency.

I am not ready to come off them so I am worried how 3 days suddenly without them will effect me. I am worried that I will spiral into ..... What?

Can anyone advise me?

Out of hours doctor or a pharmacy?

go to a pharmacy and take an empty box of your tablets with you . pharmacists are aloud to give out a small amount of certain medications under certain circumstance, take some ID as well.

You do need to get hold of some to tide you over. It's the physical symptoms that may cause a problem like that swimmy head feeling. Good advice above. You will be able to sort this so try not to worry.

Thank you for your prompt responses. I have rung 111 and spoken to someone. A dr is going to call me back and then hopefully I can pick up a prescription

I couldn't work out if I am panicking because I know I don't have enough tablets or oanicking because I didn't have one last night. I feel stupid, tired and anxious!

But thank you.

Adding to the advice not to worry. There will be some mild physical signs (the swimmy head etc) but their actual anti-depressant effect is one that both builds up and declines very slowly so you won't plunge over the weekend.

Do try and get it sorted today if you can, but if you don't succeed don't feel too anxious about it.

(I love the missed-dose dreams that I get! Really vivid and extensive, like novels firing off in my head. But I appreciate that if they have too anxious a tone they will be very unwelcome.)

Also I would change to taking it in the morning!

ButThereAgain - don't mind vivid dreams but last night's was more nightmarish - in colour - my dressing gown on my door became a person hiding, click ticking became my DS having trouble breathing, rain on the window was someone scraping their nails down it. You get the picture! I had to keep waking myself up out if the dreams and then check the house (rain sounds also became water lapping in the living room as I'm anxious about flooding ATM), check my DS etc.

No wonder I'm exhausted today!

That sounds horrible. Hope you get the pills today and have a good night's sleep tonight!

You're less likely to have disturbed sleep/ vivid dreams.
