Why is there suddenly so much wrong with me??

I feel like someone's sticking pins in my effigy somewhere.

I went from a normal, fit 51 year old in the summer to having, in quick succession, the following conditions: DVT, pulmonary embolism, fatigue, suspected endometrial cancer, a spectacular flare up of psoriasis, and now, today, a bloody painful corneal ulcer.

Why? Just why? Have I got Bloodybackluckitis or what? People at work probably think I'm making it all up like some kind of munchausenesque Walter Mitty.

Answers please on a postcard.

Ah, another one for the special Lady Probe...

What is this if which you speak!
I had an endometrial biopsy without anaesthetic 18 months ago...it was sore but ok.

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 22:09

Brave badvoc

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 22:15

Oh Badvoc, you are hard as nails.

I have to have a hysteroscopy next, which I gather is a bit more 'full on'.

OP posts:
Badvoc · 08/01/2014 22:22

Ha.
You wouldn't say that if you had ever seen me stub my toe :)
Am uber fed up of this ferocious bullshit....at times over the past few years I have felt more like a glove puppet than a person :(

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 22:24

Maybe there should be special clinics for people with multiple health problems where doctors could try to make connections, rather than compartmentalize everything.

Badvoc · 08/01/2014 22:26

I was saying that to my Dh the other day LR!
It's getting beyond a joke for me now...eyes, teeth, gallbladder surgery, now gynae issues AGAIN.
I could weep.

Badvoc · 08/01/2014 22:27

...but I won't.
I shall just sit here with my hot water bottle, paracetamol and watch repeats of the thick of it.
We all have our ways of coping :)

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 22:32

Mines breaking bad!
Multiple illness clinic is genius.
I find the minor things fall by the by too.
I remembered to mention my face rash which I've had for A YEAR when I saw dr Monday. I've finally got some cream for it.

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 22:59

That Hughes Syndrome site is interesting. I've had a lot of the 'unexplained' indicators, including blood clots, pre-eclampsia and migraines.

I've also eaten a banana. Smile

That is a good idea. I can imagine a team approach with rheumatologist, neurologist, cardiologist, heamatogist, the ologist that looks after gland function, perhaps a dietician, and the specialty that looks after gastric issues - all together, with pain specialist and physios ect. They could see patients on their own , but get together to discuss each. Perhaps you should suggest it! I suppose they might say that's a GPS job!!

LineRunner · 09/01/2014 21:35

I was thinking more about one medical professional taking note of a patient's multiple illnesses who was prepared to try and join the dots.

OP posts:
magso · 09/01/2014 22:40

Like a specialist GP?

LineRunner · 09/01/2014 22:54

Possibly, one who would run a multiple illnesses clinic and give longer appointments. A lot of GP surgeries now are compartmentalized to the extent that they will only see 'one problem at a time' in a 5-7 minute time frame.

Anyway, my eye is getting a bit better, thanks to six different kinds of eye drops!

My vision is consequently a tad blurred, and I keep crashing into things - not a good look when you're on warfarin and bruise easily!

Hi Line runner glad your eye is a bit better Smile...
I'd ask to get tested for Hughes if you haven't already been...they used to have a three clotting incidents then test thing -but that might have changed now...or could be changed if you ask...
Don't let them tell you it is only pregnancy related - or that you can't have it because you had successful pregnancies - tell them men get it too (although less common)...I was diagnosed pre-DCs.
(I think some docs think that because they are really pushing for earlier testing after miscarriages - which is a good thing.)

I don't know about your womb condition - would that upset your hormones? Maybe that could be a trigger? Although no one knows! Or maybe have lead to other problems ...
As to GPs and their 5 min slots - you should be able to make a double (or triple!) appointment - just go and unload - don't leave until you have made progress.
Personally I will never complain if I am kept waiting at the GP...
I've had really quick appts - but also overly long ones for a mystery pain - And I was in for absolutely ages once - standard appt but just as I was leaving and my guard was down, I let slip I was suicidal. She kept me there until she knew I was 'safe' and had arranged treatment..I think she saved my life...(I did then have to walk out tear stained through the crowded waiting room - full of people who I had kept waiting ...Blush)

magso · 10/01/2014 21:24

I did exactly that - made a double appointment with the GP I thought most able to rise to a challenge and said I needed an expert 'generalist' to try and work out what was wrong with me.

Glad your eye is a little better. Six kind of drops must be tricky. That alone must make you quite blurred. Hope you are more comfortable.

LineRunner · 10/01/2014 22:39

Thanks, unlucky and magso. I will get that appointment when I feel up to it.

Juggling the eye drops and tablets meant I didn't even leave the house today!

Hello, how are you doing? :)

LineRunner · 12/01/2014 23:14

Hi giraffes. Smile

Today I am discovering that coming off tramadol, even after just five bloody days, is no picnic!

My eye is really healing up, though. Although I can't see properly yet because of the eye drops. I am doing squinty MNing.

Just to say I had my surgery yesterday under a general anaesthetic. I live on! And I'm already home which is great.

This was the gynae ontology thing. The surgeon seemed positive after, so awaiting histology results. Onwards and upwards.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 22/01/2014 09:18

Oncology. Though gynae ontology sounds much more interesting. Grin
