Why is there suddenly so much wrong with me??

I feel like someone's sticking pins in my effigy somewhere.

I went from a normal, fit 51 year old in the summer to having, in quick succession, the following conditions: DVT, pulmonary embolism, fatigue, suspected endometrial cancer, a spectacular flare up of psoriasis, and now, today, a bloody painful corneal ulcer.

Why? Just why? Have I got Bloodybackluckitis or what? People at work probably think I'm making it all up like some kind of munchausenesque Walter Mitty.

Answers please on a postcard.

...but not for long.

Been slumped in bed for two days, in pain, can barely see to MN properly!

There are things they can do to ease the pain of a corneal erosion I'm sure - I think they can give like a contact lens that acts like a bandage. Did you see an eye specialist?

magso · 08/01/2014 10:25

Corneal erosions and ulcers are so painful! It s worth asking your eye specialist if anything can be done to help with the pain and healing. I seem to remember that conventional pain relief is not good for corneal pain because the nerves endings are simpler so harder to get at by medication. Bandage soft lenses may help ( by covering the nerve endings) but I think can not be used if infection is present. I think the same applies to pressure pads- although I don't know if they are used any more. A house mate many years ago had a corneal ulcer and I had to help replace her eye pressure pad when it fell down- but I wasn't very good at it, so it kept falling down - often over the other eye! My bad health patch included some eye problems (retinal haemorrhage) and resulting murky vision, which is still clearing, but at least it was not painful. You have my sympathy.
Hope it soon heals and your vision recovers quickly!

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 11:03

Hi, yes I saw two doctors at the eye casualty department. They will see me again tomorrow to check the infection. (I have been putting in three lots of prescribed eye drops.)

They did mention the bandage lens thing, I'll ask about that definitely.

Meanwhile, thank God for Tramadol.

Thanks LR.

Anyway you can see a different GP to your usual one? Just for a different perspective maybe. So you can list all the things together and the GP hears them all together in a list so of thing? A fresh pair of ears taking it all into consideration in one go.

I'm lucky that my GPs are fab but I certainly found that my health deteriorated in a many ways, on the back of a more serious diagnosis. My immune system is buggered and my GP connects things before I do.

ghostinthecanvas · 08/01/2014 11:10

That bloodybadluckitis is a bitch to shift. Hope it changes soon. Though a spot of good luck.....if it wasn't for the DVT/embolism they might not have picked up the suspected endo cancer?

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 11:11

Yes, I think I can see any GP at the practice.

Ghost, that's very true. And if it is endometrial cancer, it is very early stage. My hysteroscopy date is the 21st. Hope my eye's a bit better by then.... ffs, this is all so crap.

I need a strong Wine

And in fact I may do just that later. Sod it!

Hi Thermo, YOUCANBEMYFRIEND, hilda and magso. Didn't mean to ignore you before but my eye was hurting!

OP posts:
LineRunner · 08/01/2014 13:42

Badvoc, yes the tramadol is good but seems to wear off quickly.

Oh, and I mustn't take alcohol with it apparently. Will my woes never end?

OP posts:
Badvoc · 08/01/2014 13:47

Take paracetamol with it...it increases the efficacy.

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 13:58

Will do. Thanks.

BennetGirl, yes, I am having the special Lady Probe in a couple of weeks.

Maryz, I like the sound of your granny. I hope she also drank and swore a bit.

TheLeastAccomplishedBennetGirl · 08/01/2014 19:17

they didn't do the whole 'have a look' but they did take a sample for biopsy when they took my bastarding fucking horrible coil out

results are really quick though, and like you said, early stages and all that

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 19:20

Hi liney I feel the same, I'm falling apart.
My friends are rallying round to help but it just makes me feel like grandma!
I want to feel fit and healthy again.

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 19:24

And you are brave too. They couldn't do a lady probe on me because I ran down the corridor Blush so they gave me a GA. it was just a polyp.
I have just has my tubes n ovarys out on Friday to prevent cancer, I've no boobs so my womb is all I have left!
I'm only 46!

Have they checked you out for autoimmune diseases - specifically antiphospholipid/Hughes Syndrome? Do they know what caused your DVT? (PE will be related) Not a lot known about it - in fact people have lots of symptoms but test negative ...also although probably genetic it seems like 'something' triggers it ...so appears in later life..
Go back to GP and create a fuss ...if you feel something is wrong get it checked out ... do not be worried about being a hypochondriac etc ...

I was diagnosed with APS after a big DVT when I was 24 - it was so big because I ignored it - I didn't mention my leg hurting at the GP because I was more worried that I'd been shitting blood after my Salmonella returned with a vengeance. And I was absolutely convinced I was a hypochondriac -and the GP thought that too - by that stage Sad.
I now test negative and have done for years and not (fingers crossed) had a problem for 20 yrs...actually have been pretty healthy - but at the time apart from (unrelated) salmonella I had 'pneumonia' (probably a missed PE), a sore leg after a long haul flight that got better on its own (DVT? but not in the same one as the big DVT), kidney problems - had what a GP diagnosed as a kidney stone, then recurring problems.... had been in A&E - xray showed 'something' in my kidney - which had disappeared in a scan a week later -this was all within 6 months .... up to then I'd been pretty healthy...

LineRunner · 08/01/2014 19:37

BennetGirl, thank you for the chummy punch, it is much appreciated. Grin

Ledkr, did you run down the corridor in your hospital gown? I know it's not funny, but yet it kind of is. Like when they warn of possible 'discomfort' and get out a piece of equipment that probably had its own part in Transformers. Yikes.
