is that the stuff that puts you into a false menopause?

no experience but bumping for you in case someone knows.

hope it helps you.

FWIW, i do personally know some women who have had endometrial ablation as treatment for fibroids - they had completed their families - and all have been VERY pleased w/the result. no hormonal side effects, either.

the PMS would still be there though expat (which is a shame!)

out of interest, what else did your gynae try before going down this route? (just wondering as have slightly similar set of circumstances to you)

already tried progestone called primolut but symptoms got worse.
have had almost 6 years of IVF which was unsuccessful.
PMS and fibroids much worse since although have always has terribly heavy periods
am anaemic and in agony 3 weeks out of 4 and periods last 10-12 days.

the decapeptyl is supposed to shut the whole shebang down thus making fibroids shrink, periods stop iron levels go back to normal. the HRT is supposed to prevent thinning of bones etc and other menopausal stuff like hot flushes.

anyway the only other thing left is a total hysterectomy, but i had a serious operation this year and gynae-bloke says no way would he operate so soon.( also given IVF history he thinks i am not emotionally ready)

I really really hope it works for you.

One thing I have wondered though is isn't taking HRT the same as taking hormones (like the ones in the pill)? My main concern with going down the hysterectomy or even this injection route (which I had never heard of before till you mentioned it!) would be that the HRT would make the PMS worse or I'd get other hormone related symptoms. Did the gynae talk to you about that? Maybe HRT doesn't give you those sort of symptoms?

At least you will have relief from heavy periods - they are such a blight on daily life aren't they. I hope it sorts out your PMS.

interesting, cremola, do you believe your period troubles are related to the IVF?

cremolafoam · 24/07/2006 21:34

hi expat- no don't think anything to do with IVf i have always had desperate periods and the fibroids:NOW GRAPEFRIUT SIZE!were diagnosed about 10 years before Ivf started. Ivf may have contributed to increased size of fibroids at the time, but this ought to have settled according to big chief Gynaeman.
Foxinsox- the decapeptyl stops ovulation a bleed etc . i think they give you the Hrt (Kliovance) so that you will not have the menopause symptoms . It is only a tiny mantenance dose so I hope not any other symptoms like the ones i have now ( vile raging Biatch)
I live in hope. and thanks for your interest . had the no1 jab today. next one in 4 weeks.
will let you all know if I have stopped being a rabid banshee in a months time.
