is throwing up. Once last night and just now after breakfast. Do you starve them or feed as normal. No milk obviously. Dd never had sickness bug so young so I could always ask her how she felt..

Also I am really nervous about sick and my kids being ill in general. I REALLY don't cope at all well and I can't eat or sleep when they are ill- I go totally panicky and feel like rubbish mother. I always think the worst - he fell off the changing table the other day and now I think it's concussion. But it's two days later, could it be that?

Ah, now I've just been on the phone to NHS Direct about exactly this.

At first just give water (or very very weak squash) and only a little sip at a time. If they keep it down for an hour or two then try carbs (a bit of plain pasta or bread or toast). Again go for about 1-2 hours. If they bring anything up don't try anything for about an hour as their stomach is still contracted.

They say not to starve, but equally not to feed as normal. I hope this helps. Ask more questions, as I only heard the advice 10 minutes ago, so it's all fresh in my head!

Think I made it worse because I gave him breakfast and a big bottle of water and it all came straight back up. Thought the sickness last night may have been a one off, but it's definately a bug.

I have an older dd (6) but she never had a bug like this so young. She could always tell me what was the matter.

Just got the the end of term with lots of extra things on and late nights and was looking forward to nothing else happening so we could all chill for a bit and now this.

I know exactly how you feel.
DD was sick this week and I panic and imagine all sorts of horrible things. I ended up calling my mum down to help me just for support. I also get really panicky and have diarhiah(sp) through being so stressed about it. Even now 3 days later I've slept on DD floor in case she was ill again and I didnt hear her in the night.

I was told to remember BRAT
Only give these types of foods in the next 24 hrs if she keeps water down
Bananas
Rice
Apples
Toast
I gave DD sips of water for a few hrs and then gave her toast and jam(no butter) when she kept that down I just gave her little things throughout the day. Ie water, diluted squash/fruit juice, more toast and then after 20 hrs she ate fish.

omg is such a long day already. He is so clingy, and because he's not eating he is all out of routine.

Keeping water with sugar in down now but soooooo grizzly.

I was told that Milk was okay, esp breast milk. The gp said that is was a rare for the lactolose to make them more sick unless there was an underlying problem. He also said, be guided by them on a feeding front, if they want it give it within reason. Throwing up on an empty stomach isn't nice either, and withholding food can weaken someone and their ability to fight it off. If they don't want food, just five fluids. Hope this helps

How are you doing?

Ds2 has just cuddled and slept all day. He had a breadstick at 12 and kept it down, but is asleep in his cot again.

Not looking forward to tonight!

I had this all last week (yes it lasted a whole week) I took dd to the doctors twice because I was worried. doc said it was a tummy bug and to keep temp down with calpol and also what fisil and kbaby have said about feeding. she had been fine since last wedsneday but last night she woke up vomitting she did this 3 times! she seems to be ok todaY so fingers crossed it was a one off.
hope our dd/ds's are feeling better soon x
