13 y/o dd and painful lump on aereola

My dd has a hot, painful bump on one aereola. She asked me to look at it today, and I have, and I noticed that the nipple is inverted on that breast only. There is a definite small lump/swelling just underneath her nipple.

She is not unwell in herself (no temp or anything) but this is freaking me out a bit although I am putting out an "absolutely nothing to worry about" message to dd.

I am taking her to docs on Monday. She will be fine, won't she??

Any lumps appearing anywhere is worrying, I would be just as concerned as you but try to remember 9 out of 10 lumps found on the breast are NOT cancer and it does sound like a cyst, lumps that are painful are more likely to be a cyst or something else. Some go on there own but don't be surprised if your GP sends for further tests to safe.

Well done her coming to you, even if your close to your mum it takes a brave teenager to say something's wrong and not to ignore it because they are embarrassed. If she needs it try and reassure her most girls/women need to see their GP for something like this in their life time. Lumps, bumps or just check ups and as embarrassing as it can feel it's just another apart growing up.

It's sounds like Mastitis, which could be due to hormonal changes. I don't obviously know if it is, but the hot, painful tenderness points that way.
I agree, your daughter did the right thing coming to you. Even if it turns to be harmless, it's good to know she will confide I you.

Oh dear yes, she is extremely hormonal. Has just had a heavy period from hell. Could they be related? My poor baby, she is still just a little girl really Sad.

Mintyy hot and painful sounds like infection maybe ingrown hair follicle or something. I would get it checked before Monday if you can. Don't think its major serious but probably needs an antibiotic.

BigBroIsWatching · 27/12/2013 23:00

Let us know how you get on at the docs. (I'm dreading the day my daughter begins puberty. She's irate enough without all the added hormone!)

My dd had something similar and it was an infection. she eas given antibiotics and it cleared up quickly.
