my 8 year old's tooth fell out last night.thing is,compared to all her other ones--they fell out about 2 years ago--this one is quite big. i'm a little worried that this is one of her new teeth. is this possible? it's one of the teeth that's about 2 back from her front teeth.

thanks everyone!snorkle, would that be about 2/3 teeth away from the front teeth?
the tooth is quite large but i don't think there's any roots attached--just a kind of hole with a hard piece in the middle!bled alot when it came out.

was the tooth that fell out healthy in which case I would say it's a first tooth

cutekids · 20/07/2006 10:22

Unless there has been some sort of a trauma (such as a fall or blow to the face) it is unheard of for adult teeth to fall out (they can much, much later in life due to gum disease etc). Children do loose baby teeth right up into the early teens. If there is very little root it is definately a baby tooth as the rootr resorb so that the "grip" of the tooth is loosened to allow it to fall out. If you are concerned do get an appointment to have it checked but I'm absolutely certain it is nothing to worry about.

cutekids · 20/07/2006 10:30

thanks comeoveneer.trouble is, she's been telling me that her tooth was "chipped" for a while-although i couldn't see what she was going on about at the time. (think someone's knocked into her when she was on the trampoline).I'm just wondering if this is the kind of trauma you're talking about? It's quite a big tooth though and she hasn't lost any for a while.as i've said, it's got a hole with a white bit in the middle but can't see anything that looks like a root...well not that i'm an expert.

Does it look like this ?

cutekids · 20/07/2006 10:37

doesn't look like 2nd two on top or 2nd two on the bottom. not sure about the two first ones though! Is that the part nearest the gum? sorry to be so vague about this! definately doesn't look like the "pointy" ones though!

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 20/07/2006 10:40

Those pointy parts are the roots if it doesn't have those then it is def. a baby tooth and the roots have been worn right down to allow it to fall out.

cutekids · 20/07/2006 10:43

Thankyou so much comeoveneer! i've been imagining allsorts...what's causing it? something underlying etc.? really appreciate your time and patience aswell. and thanks to everyone else on this thread who've given me some advice.
