Worried about bleeding after birth

Hayls · 28/02/2004 19:24

I had dd just over 4 weeks ago and the bleeding has gradually stopped since then, I've had only a bit of very light coloured for most of this week. However, today I've had some 'proper' bleeding again. It's not heavy or have clots in it and there really isn't that much but it does seem to be fresh. I thought once it stopped it wouldn't come back but is it usual for it to come and go befre finally stopping? I'm probably panicking due to lack of sleep affecting my brain but should I be worried about it? Should i get checked out?

Don't worry Hayls...the same happened to me after I had my ds. I completely stopped for 3 days and then oh boy, did it come back with vengeance!

I would only advise you to get it checked if you have any discomfort with it or if you pass large clots.

Hope this helps

ime normal. Did you do something more active befoe you noticed it. Even being up and about a bit longer than previously can do it.

Happened to me too - was fine! On and off for about 8 weeks.

Grommit · 28/02/2004 19:59

same happened to me - seemed to stop for a few days and then came back very heavy - lasted about 5 weeks this time - 8 wks after dd1. Sounds very normal - don't worry. If you are still concerned mention to your health visitor

Sounds fine to me too. Mine is heavy again if I overdo it. Could this be the case with you? If so, it's your body's way of telling you to take it a bit easy for a while.

Yep happened to me too. I thought it was my first period after birth until it went on and on and on.

Hayls · 28/02/2004 20:55

Phew, thanks for that, I'm feeling a bit reassured now! I was doing a bit more than usual so I suppose that's what caused it. I'll try to get some sleep and catch up with myself a bit- not that easy when dd has colic that normally starts about now.... At least I can worry about that instead!

Hayls, i can't remember exactly when but first time i took dd out, i POURED!! I got blood on my mams chair, i was embarrassed and my mam was worried sick! I bled for ages too! Hope you are o.k and enjoying your dd

Hayls I bled for ages after DD3 and the midwife told me is was because I was doing too much. If you are at all worried then speak to your midwife.

When you gave birth was your placenta intact (think thats the right word)? I did have one heavy bleed a while after baby was born and that was a small amount of tissue or placenta (midwife couldnt be certain which) that had yet to find its way out.

Take care

Clarinet60 · 28/02/2004 21:05

Ditto. The midwife told me that she'd know if I'd been hoovering, so to stop it!
Hope you feel better soon.
