on nipples (breastfeeding) or, er, elsewhere?

it lives in everyone in the gut, but certain conditions set it off. candida albicans is the tech name. if you do a search on that it'll give u loads of reasons why.
natural yogurt can inhibit it in the gut or a pessary should you have a discharge and itching.
any chemist will have them.
its normal and common.
being pregnant can flare it up as can certain foods, even IBS.

natural yog with a drop of lavender oil works well - just a bit messy!

You can start thrush (vaginal or oral) after a course of anti-biotics, which kill off the bateria we have to keep candida at bay.

If you think you have vaginal thrush go to the pharmacist and she'll sell you pessaries to control it. Or you can buy fluconazole tablet, which is more effdective and quicker, but a bit tough on your liver (not good if you've any liver dysfunction).

I'm prone to vaginal thrush, but am finding that a daily acidophillus capsule, washed down with actimel or yakkult seems to be keeping it away right now.

True easy - I get terrible thrush every time I have a course of antibiotics

Spacemonkey

Have you tried acidophillus capsules? Take them when you're on the antibiotics, and for a couple of weeks after. They can help prevent gippy tummy that people often get with antibiotics too.

I was given intravenous vancomycin after my op last year (surgeon terrified of MRSA on top of everything else), and had thrush right through from my mouth to the skin on my thighs, so i've become a bit of an expert on fixing it.

My DS had a course of antibiotics for his eczema and we both ended up with thrush - him on his bum and mouth and me on my nipples. We are still currently under treatment with nystatin cream for his bum, liquid for his mouth and I am using baby mouth gel on my nipples. HTH
