Over here for the hand holding.
One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives.
Come and join us if you are waiting, pre op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards.

Thanks ladies. The consultant, hospital and my GP have all been fantastic and I have decent pain relief which helps.

Basket the first two weeks I would only expect to be showering and pottering. The repairs can be quite uncomfortable and take a lot out of you. If you can freezing a couple of meals helps a lot.
Gingme my consultant went through a list and we decided together what was going to be removed and what would be preserved, one of the oddest discussions I have ever had.

Basketofchocolate · 27/02/2014 20:03

Thanks Twinkle. I have got some stuff in the freezer but DH will be off work all week next week so hoping he'll manage with some guidance on meals.

Not sure I count as fit and healthy but I don't think am too bad.

Would anyone recommend/did anyone take vitamins or a vitamin tonic post op to aid recovery?

LackaDAISYcal · 27/02/2014 21:01

and yet more waiting twinks...they have moved my appointment from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th as the consultant is unavailable on the 11th. There was an appointment a week earlier, but only with a registrar so they wouldn't give it to me as the consultant wanted me at her clinic apparently. I'm torn between thinking "well, if they moved it futher back it can't be all bad" to "why is she insisting she sees me herself?" Can't stand this waiting. I just need to know wtf is going on.

Shock at just leaving a big hole, but I guess that's what it is!

gingeme · 27/02/2014 21:49

Daisy it is a big hole in my case Ive had five babies lol Grin Grin

LackaDAISYcal · 27/02/2014 22:39
Grin
Twinkletights · 28/02/2014 18:56

lackadaisy sorry that you have yet more waiting, holds hand.

Grin at being left with cervix sized holes. I kept my cervix and am hoping that he sewed the top of it up!

Basket I have only taken high dose vit c with zinc to make sure that I don't pick up a cold.
My favourite recovery tonic is my Hotel Chocolat, yummy, although right now I would choose pain relief over any treat. Bloody hell this one has been painful Sad

shewhowines · 02/03/2014 09:26

basket good luck for tomorrow. Hope you are not too worried. It will soon be over. Thanks

Well the jury's out, regarding the cervix then. Mine definitely went. What about everyone else?

twinkle hope the pain is easing a bit now.

lack Thanks

gingeme · 02/03/2014 11:05

Good luck for tommorrow basket. Positive thoughts and relax xx

dopamax · 02/03/2014 11:41

hi and thanks for the replies, so my dilemma is....befre going shopping for a wedding (baggy!) outfit....if I am having a total hyst on the 3rd April, is it too ambitious to think will be well enough to travel to a big family wedding less than 3 weeks after...which for starters is a 3 hour car journey.
Also whilst am posting already take prescription strength co co codomal for other reasons so worried so used to these as been on them long term the hospital wont give me any stronger drug therefore no help re pain? Thanks

Basketofchocolate · 02/03/2014 12:48

Thanks both of you.
am worried-of course! -but trying to keep calm and just get stuff ready.

am feeling super tired today. was sneezing a bit yesterday so worried that have a cold coming on top of surgery.

Am staying positive by imagining what it will be like to run after DS when he's playing-without bladder weakness and also being able to exercise properly via am fit enough to run after him.

Basketofchocolate · 02/03/2014 18:55

Right, anyone else not able to stomach the 'preload' sachets?

Any suggestions?

I know they are pure glucose carbs, but not sure what else can do instead and if it really makes a major difference?

shewhowines · 02/03/2014 19:15

I had 6 bottles of lemon flavoured stuff. They weren't too bad. Quite palatable. Don't know what to suggest except hold your nose and down them in one.
Good luck. What time do you have to be there tomorrow?

gingeme · 02/03/2014 19:54

preload ?

Basketofchocolate · 02/03/2014 20:35

Shew - mine are 'neutral' flavour, but can tell something's going down as it's making me retch a bit. Managed half of one so far by adding squash to it - doesn't say can/can't do that. However, am now feeling bit light headed

Am in at 7am.

Gingeme - they are sachets they give you which say they are medical food/carbs. However, it is glucose syrup powder you have to dissolve and drink the night before - 2 pints of it.

gingeme · 02/03/2014 22:22

Oh God sounds gross. Bit like the gestational diabetes test when you have to drink the glucose powder stuff on an empty stomach. Bleugh !!

Twinkletights · 03/03/2014 09:28

Hope that all goes well today basket, will be thinking of you.

Still in a haze of pain and pain relief here but feeling so much better in myself.

gingeme · 03/03/2014 13:27

Twinkle Smile Thanks
All the best for today basket Thanks
Fed up with waiting now Hmm though dreading getting the letter too Blush

Basketofchocolate · 04/03/2014 12:29

Hi
well, am in hospital, recovering.
no one cared whether i had had the sachets or not.

only had spinal anaesthetic (?) which was fab. had nice snooze thru op snuggled under warm blankets. would highly recommend. was not scary at all.
since there were no beds on the ward for hours, i spent a long time in recovery ward. was so happy that didn't have to go thru what the GA people did.
the anesthetist said he thought spinal and sedation best and all theatre nurses agreed it would be there choice.

since then, pain has kicked in, but only had paracetamol so far.

expecting to be out tomorrow .

gingeme · 04/03/2014 20:08

Grin Grin basketofchocolate

shewhowines · 04/03/2014 20:47

See, told you the waiting is the worst bit Grin

Glad that everything went well Thanks

It'll be good to get home and join us on the recovery sofa.

Basketofchocolate · 05/03/2014 10:19

Feeling much better today.

Had shower, bud breakfast and all sorts.

Another tip from me is bring in a radio device. It has really helped me feel connected 9th outside world, the talk of sunshine made me determined to reach the door for some fresh air on one of my shuffles about and have found radio or music great for keeping my legs active when too hard or tired to get out of bed. Am sort of bopping along which should help circulation. helps when doing it without thinking about it. Also found the radio good for keeping spirits up. Feel asleep yesterday afternoon to some calming music brought in.
Headphones also helps block out other noises or conversations -especially during visiting hours.

Home later today. Where i shall probably crash and cry Smile

gingeme · 05/03/2014 12:29

You sound very positive and I am Glad to hear your doing well.
I had a phone call this morning. They still want to do the biopsy and have given me a date at the end of this month for it. I dont know why as I dont need it Angry My Mum is coming with me this time just incase she tries to fob me off again Wink

Basketofchocolate · 05/03/2014 19:09

Managed to eat lunch and dinner but not managed any peace to get a nap.
super tired now.

Twinkletights · 06/03/2014 13:23

Good to hear that all has gone well basket and welcome to the recovery sofa Thanks these surgeries do leave us super tired.

Gingeme that's good that they have got back to you and hope that all goes well at your appointment

Basketofchocolate · 06/03/2014 16:49

Not too good at the resting, but trying.
Trouble is that brain is in tact and not tired so finding trying to nap really frustrating.

Noticed bruising today on lower abdomen. a nice pale blue colour. dread to think what it's like on the inside!
