Over here for the hand holding.
One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives.
Come and join us if you are waiting, pre op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards.

gingeme · 11/02/2014 23:03

hi dyzzidi how are you feeling ?

gingeme · 12/02/2014 11:57

No op for me. The gyneacologist has suggested Zoladex which is a monthly injection which will shut my hormones down as if Ive had the op. If after 6 months I feel better I will be offered the op. If I dont feel better they will start investigation on my bowel. She wants to do a womb biopsy too in about 4 weeks.

Ledkr · 12/02/2014 12:21

I had that for good breast cancer recovery reasons. It was ok. Had injections in my tummy if I remember rightly

gingeme · 12/02/2014 14:07

What side effects did you have Ledkr ?

Ledkr · 12/02/2014 19:08

Don't remember having many tbh but then I'm also meant to be in surgical meno now and I've no symptoms, just call me Wonder Woman

Twinkletights · 12/02/2014 19:57

Hi dyzzidi welcome to the recovery sofa Smile. Hope that you are getting lots of rest.

gingeme. That's great that you have a strategy for your treatment. How do you feel about it? Hope that you are okay x

I think that I have over done things today, considering a medicinal glass of wine.

gingeme · 12/02/2014 20:12

Oh Ledkr your a Lucky Lady for sure Smile

Twinkle I was so geared up to be told 'yes you can' and 'here is your date ' I was shocked if a little dissapointed Shock . Ive had a read up on it and it seems pretty straight forward but in the back of my mind Im thinking if theyre going to operate anyway why not do it now !?!?

fitflopqueen · 13/02/2014 19:26

Have seen consultant today who showed me his training video of the procedure i had done (but mine was much bigger!), quite interesting.
Clear to drive and fly (as a passenger Smile)
Still tender round scars and just to continue being careful. (am still very tired, thats normal).
Discharged so just got to get fitness back and some energy before returning to work, the nurse who works with him then said as i went out that she had 3 months off following her op and to take my time before returning so will take her advice on that.

Hope everyone else is mending or has treatment planned.

Ledkr · 13/02/2014 21:49

Well ill have had 8 wks when I go back but I'm still pretty sore around my belly button scar and bleed a bit if I do too much.
I'm very disappointed with my fat belly too, I've lost half a stone but some trousers are still too tight around my belly and end up hurting after a few hours.
Annoying.

gingeme · 14/02/2014 08:48

Good morning ladies. Well I think I will love you and leave you. Good luck all those with coming surgery. Speedy recovery to all who have had surgery . You never know I might be back in 6 months. xx

shewhowines · 14/02/2014 09:49

Don't leave. We are fully invested in your story and need to know how you are. Update us every so often please.
I don't drop in very often now, as my surgery was so long ago but I still want to know that everyone else is doing well.
All the best to you and everyone else.

gingeme · 14/02/2014 10:23

shewhowines Thankyou. Yes I shall pop back ofcourse. Smile

Twinkletights · 16/02/2014 12:01

Great news fitflop about consultant being happy with you, it looks like his two weeks for us to get back to work was quite ambitious Grin

One lesson I have learnt is that time to heal is so important for us ladies.

Gingeme please don't leave the thread, I really hope that the injections start to give you some relief and that you start feeling better soon. When do you start your treatment?

I have had confirmation to go back into hospital on the 24th for another repair, it doesn't quite seem real when I starting to feel so much better and recovering. I appreciate my consultant giving me a date so quickly and soon. I really didn't want two lots of recovery and time off work etc.

gingeme · 17/02/2014 08:53

Morning ladies. Twinkle the gynea gave me 4 weeks to read up and think about it. She wants to do a biopsy on my womb because of my constant bleeding and will I presume tell me then. She might give me the first one then.

gingeme · 17/02/2014 22:48

Hi ladies Im back and Ive made my desicion to not go down the Zoladex road. Im going to push for a hysterectomy. I started another thread about it on here and lots of bad stories were told to me Sad

Twinkletights · 18/02/2014 09:53

Sad gingeme only you know what is right for you.
Sorry that I can't offer any advice, endo sounds awful.
Keep posting, do you have a date for your other procedure?

Feeling a bit low here but at least the sun is shining.

gingeme · 18/02/2014 10:13

Not yet Twinkle. Should be within the next few weeks. DH and I had a good read up on everything last night for a good hour or so and the most positive thing for me would be the hysterectomy Grin

Why are you feeling low ? Sunshine ? Whats that then. Grey and dreary here in London !

Twinkletights · 18/02/2014 11:05

gingeme that is great that you have talked things through with your DH. It felt like a big decision and I have no regrets it was certainly the right thing for me. The relief from pain and discomfort is incredible.
As previous posters have said the wait was worse than the op and the worst part of the recovery is the pin you to the sofa tiredness.
Although I have enjoyed reading books and watching box sets on sky Blush
I hope that your appointment comes through soon, it is not nice being in limbo x

I am feeling low about the posterior prolapse repair on Monday. It will be the third time that I have had this area repaired and 4th op in 18 months. It will need three month stitches this time due to my tissues being so weak.
I am starting feel so much better since the hysterectomy and missing work and normal life. Thank you for asking.

Gorgeous sunny day here, the washing is out on the line!

gingeme · 18/02/2014 11:59

Oh my twinkle thats alot to deal with Shock . My Mum had her hysterectomy because she had a prolapsed womb. I didnt know what this was until I decided on the op myself. This was back in the day when only a full hysterectomy was available and you spent 6 weeks in bed !

gingeme · 22/02/2014 07:59

Morning all. Very quiet here lately !! How is everyone ? Smile

shewhowines · 22/02/2014 11:25

Hi everyone,
How are you all doing?

lack have you heard anything yet? Fingers still crossed for you.

Twinkletights · 23/02/2014 16:04

Hope that everyone is well and had a good weekend.

Gingeme I think that this subject has been quite a learning curve for all of us.

I am feeling so much better here. I am really pleased that I managed half term on my own with the DCs but am also glad that DH is back at home now.

I had my pre-op on friday which turned into a bit of a drama with several attempts to get a good ECG and then the bloods department had closed by the time I was sent there for blood tests so had to find some-one to do that. The nurse that I saw had a hysterectomy a few years ago and said that it took her the full three months to recover.
I met up with a friend afterwards for a drink and catch up which was lovely.

Back to hospital for 7am tomorrow for the repair so will catch up with you all soon.

Hope that everyone else is recovering well and those waiting for appointments that they come through soon.

RhondaJean · 23/02/2014 19:53

I'm really sorry but I'm pack again with a question for my friend!

She's about 9 weeks post op and ovary removal by keyhole.

She's just texted me to say she's had sex 3 times and bled every time, that last weekend she had quite a big bleed during the night (not a haemorrhage but enough to ruin her new sheets) and she's had a sharp pain all day today behind her pubic bone.

She went to her GP last week and he said this is all perfectly normal.

Anyone got any advice? I suggests she called the ward her op was carried out on, they told her to phone nhs 24.

Thanks, hope you are all getting on well.

LackaDAISYcal · 24/02/2014 00:57

Thanks she Smile
Just coming on to update. Got my appointment through for 11th March. I was thinking Good News until I got a further letter which is a copy of the registrar's letter to my GP; it says the D&C was indicated "possible Mullerian adenosarcom"a. Also says follow up appointment to be after urgent histology and MDT meeting.

An old MN friend of mine is in the pathology/histology line so I emailed asking for advice. She said that it's likely that they found the adenosarcoma in the polyp that was removed and are now looking for a larger sample, and that it's unlikely that after finding the adenosarcoma in the original sample that the curretage samples would come back with something different. Or at least I think that's what she was saying Confused. I am trying to take comfort from the fact that my appointment isn't for another two weeks and if it weas deadly serious they would see me sooner, though I suspect that is more to do with the appointment booking system.

I have been experiencing a lot of cramping and yet more bleeding, but not sure what's my "normal" cycle re-establishing itself after the removal of the mirena and what is potentially a problem. I also feel strangely aware of my uterus, if that makes any sense; like I can feel it's there.

Googling mullerian adenosarcoma has left me even more confused; there isn't a lot of info out there, but what there is can be quite contradictory but all say it's an uncommon/rare cancer. So much so, that there isn't a single reference to it on the whole of MN; I searched.

It's going to be an anxious two week wait :(

gingeme · 25/02/2014 08:47

I dont know what any of that means Daisy but all the best of luck to you x
Still waiting for my second consultant appointment. She said if I decide to have the op, which I have , she will refer me to someone else. Im guessing that will be a surgeon ?!?!
